I heard a good message in church this Sunday concerning our purpose in life. In essence we are put on this earth loaded with the talents that God has chosen to give us. He has a purpose for our life and we are to use our God-given talents to accomplish it. Unfortunately some of us have not spent any time trying to figure out what our purpose is. Have you ever asked yourself why God put you on this earth in the first place? If you haven’t, chances are slim indeed that you will achieve God’s purpose for your life. It is kind of like Alice and Wonderland, if you don’t know where you are going, any road you choose will get you there. Unfortunately many of us use our talents to achieve “our” own self-serving purpose instead of using them to glorify God. Recently I considered retiring earlier than I had planned. My children are educated, happy and financially secure. I have accumulated enough to comfortably retire and then some. I love to hunt, fish, play music, sculpt and paint, ride wave runners and my pontoon boat, water ski, work
out every morning. I would love to have another lab, my faithful
companion “Bear” had to be put to sleep recently. I would love to teach Sunday school and work with leading prisoners to the Lord. My hectic responsibilities at work and almost unbearable travel schedule prevent me from doing much of any of this. Additionally I have to undergo stress to a degree that few people ever undergo, or can even understand.
So why not just retire and live the good life? Well as much as I sometimes want to do just that and get away from the hassles that I undergo, I believe that the purpose for my life that God has laid on my heart is to help abused children. The talents that I seem to have been given mainly are related to being successful in business. People who are successful in business tend to make money. That money could be used to help someone other than myself such as abused kids. Hence I am determined to continue on until I achieve financial goals that will permanently endow my foundation for abused kids. Simultaneously my goal is to ensure that our company can prosper to an extent that every employee will reap a financial harvest in the next few years. If God is behind this plan, it will work. If He is not, it will not. I strongly believe that this is my purpose in life. If I missed the true purpose for which God wants to use me, it is not because I have not prayed about it, and extensively thought about it. I do not think it would bode well for my life if I chose to ignore God’s purpose for me, just so I can live the “good” life. I am not at that financial point right now, so it looks like I will continue slugging it out for a while longer.
How about you? Which road have chosen? Do you know where it leads?
What is your purpose in life? Are you working hard to achieve it?
Your life on this earth is not an accident, regardless if you or your parents planned for you or not. GOD wanted you on this earth to achieve His purpose for your life. Think about it and then DO something about it. So you don’t think God really has a purpose for you? Then how do you explain the following passage?

And we know that all things work
together for good to those who love
God, to those who are the called
according to His purpose.
