I was sitting on the plane and they were getting ready to close the door when in walked a drop dead gorgeous young lady that everyone on the plane stopped whatever they were doing in order to ogle at her. I feel sure that she’d waited until the last moment in order that everyone could see her as she made a big production in getting seated on the plane.

As luck would have it she sat down right next to me. (Yes!)

She was very young and very friendly and immediately began chatting at 90 miles an hour. I’d been engrossed in reading the paper, but I quickly abandoned that idea because she would not allow anything less than my giving her my full attention.

She informed me that she’d just won a television reality show as the top model, beating out 11 other models over a twelve week period. She’d been on the late night shows, the Today show, and other television shows and her career was really taking off. She showed me several magazines including People and Vogue that had written feature articles about her that included photos of her scantily clad body which was stunningly well proportioned.

She was incredibly beautiful with gorgeous green eyes and beautiful lips and there is no doubt that God blessed her enormously in many ways. She was not only striking in her looks, she was also very personable, funny, talented, vibrant, and I enjoyed talking with her very much.

She was on her way to NYC to begin what she hoped would be a fabulous career. Never missing an opportunity I did mention to her that success was not without its pitfalls. Too much money – too fast often leads to a life filled with misery instead of bliss. Madonna, Brittany Spears, and Miley Cyrus for example were all blessed by God with beauty and talent; however they lost their discretion somewhere along the way.

She smiled when I told her that to be sure they have their following, but they remind me of pigs. I then tried to interest her in discussing where she might spend eternity, but alas she abruptly changed the subject and I’m sure at that age was convinced that she would live forever, never age, and be adored every step of the way.

I fear the bright lights and predators of New York City will rob her of her innocence, decency, modesty, and virtue; none of which can be purchased with the big time money she will no doubt bank. She can buy gold and diamonds, cars and planes, but they cannot give her peace, joy, and love. I know this first hand.

Those treasures only come from the One she didn’t want to talk about – Jesus Christ. I pray that this young lady can maintain her youthful innocence as her career skyrockets and she faces both the good and bad that will invariably come from it. Hopefully Jesus will really bless her by bringing someone into her life that loves the Lord and will teach her to do the same. Maybe that someone is you . . .

Proverbs 11:22
As a ring of gold in a swine’s snout,
So is a lovely woman who lacks discretion.
