I was very proud to see the employees of Horizon contribute their time and money to several worthy causes this year. They opened their wallets and their hearts to help those less fortunate than themselves. In so doing the Bible teaches they built treasures for themselves in heaven.
Those who had an opportunity to participate, but declined do not realize what they have missed out on. Again when we look towards the Bible, it teaches that it is more blessed to give than to receive. That has always been the case with me whenever I have an opportunity to help someone, it is a joyous experience for me, and I’m sure it is the same with everyone but the most miserly. Jesus stated that the greatest command was to love your God with all of your heart and soul and second to that is to love one another. How could you obey this command if you saw someone suffering that you had the means to help but did not?
Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ for Christians. How better to celebrate His coming than by helping those who are less fortunate. Jesus said that when we help the poor, the sick, those who are in prison, the unfortunate, etc., in actuality we are helping Him.
If perhaps you have been remiss in the area of giving and/or helping others, good news – It is never too late to start. In fact you still have time to make someone who you may not even know very happy in time for the birthday of our Lord and Savior. Try it you will like it.
