October 29, 2020 – Click here to listen

A politician friend of mine is trying to be reelected and he told me he is running on “fumes.” He is working as hard as he can, and just yesterday told me that after a full day of wall to wall meetings and a slew of political events was out waving signs with some of his supporters in the pouring down rain until dark. He is bone tired.

He said after the election is over, he thought he would just hop in his car and drive and drive and drive and go nowhere in particular.

This morning I included in my thoughts for our daily Bible study together a consideration for him: Win, lose, or draw you have fought the good fight for your re-election. I assume you will be content with the results no matter the outcome. God might want you to assume a new course and if he does, I would embrace it and optimistically set out on your new adventure. Hang in there; just a few more days to go . . .

I’m so competitive it is disgusting. As many of you know I cannot force myself to watch a live football game with my favorite team. I prerecord the games and if my team wins, I watch it; otherwise I delete it. I tried playing golf but soon quit because I discovered that it is impossible to win, the game always wins. I love to fish but cannot stand to come home empty-handed. I just want to win and unfortunately that cannot always be the case.

I know, I know – sick . . .

So much for my giving advice to my buddy – taking my own advice is an entirely different song altogether.

I have prayed and prayed and prayed and then prayed some more for many things through the years and as with you have discovered the answer to some of my prayers is not always a YES. My life turned out great with far too many blessings for any one person to receive especially with my wonderful family. It is miraculous how God has looked after me and yet I still find it difficult on occasion to trust in His judgement 1000%.

Before you get too smug in looking at my failure think about this. I along
with millions of you have been praying fervently that President Trump
will be reelected. If he is not elected, do you honestly think that getting over
it will be easy.

Uh, yeah!

Remember I told my buddy if he should lose, he should “embrace it and optimistically set out on his new adventure.” I cannot envision much optimism emanating from me if Biden wins. How about you?

There used to be a television program Father Knows Best and that title is a good description of how our relationship with God should be. It is not what we want, and think is the best for us that is relevant; it’s what the Lord thinks that is best for us that is important. His plan is coming along just fine from His perspective sitting on His throne in heaven. He already knows the outcome and it will be splendid. He doesn’t have to rely on me or you or anyone else for anything and one day it will be revealed to all of creation.

I experienced eight long years of Obama tearing our beloved country apart piece by piece and the thought of it happening again is nauseating. Unfortunately like the Alabama – Georgia game I cannot prerecord and delete, I must live it out and realize that this one battle doesn’t constitute the entire plan.  Who knows maybe Coach Saban will retire someday.

Jesus put it best when He petitioned God and asked him to spare Him the nightmare He would live through, but in the end, He made it clear that His wish was that the Father’s will should be done and not His own. As a result, all of humanity now has a way to spend eternity in heaven.

So I petition our Father God for Him to intervene for President Trump to be reelected, but if He is not willing for whatever reason(s) then His will be done. (And if Trump does not win would You please send an angel to comfort me.)

Luke 22:42

Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done. Then an angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him . . .
