I have been studying 1 Samuel during my Bible study this week. King Saul said in Chapter 26:21 “I have sinned . . . Indeed I’ve played the fool . . . ” He started out so well, but after he became king, he drifted away from God to the point of acting similar to an atheist and even consulting with a witch at one point. He was severely wounded in a battle with the Philistines and he fell on his sword to avoid being taken captive and humiliated even more. All three of his sons were killed during the same battle.
I was mulling this over today and it made me think about the United States of America. We started out so well as ” . . . one nation under God.” But like King Saul we have sinned and indeed played the fool. And now we are facing the most consequential election of our nation’s history which could have such vast devastating effects on our country of such a magnitude we might not ever recover as a nation and world power.
Hanging in the balance will be freedom – freedom to worship, freedom of speech and say whatever we like about any subject, freedom to live where we desire, freedom to work in our desired profession, freedom to see the doctors of our choice, and freedom to attend the schools that we desire to attend, and so on. So much of that we just take for granted.
This is not the case in many locales around the world. In North Korea or Communist China, Iran, and other countries you can be put to death for saying the wrong thing and daring to speak out against the state, or for even owning a Bible.
We started out so well and God blessed out nation as none other since the dawn of time with the possible exception of Israel in their early days. Today we face riots, economic chaos, division, hate, anger, a total lack of civility, rampant crime and prisons being emptied by misguided social justice zealots, abortion on demand, pornography, sex trafficking, corruption, drugs – drugs – drugs, etc. We have sinned and indeed have played the fool.
So what will happen? Will it be the death of our nation as we once knew it? Will we end up being a Socialist or Communist country? I would say for the short run it depends on the next election and how corrupt it turns out to be; however politicians alone cannot save our country. Only God can do that.
The solution to stopping sin and playing the fool is to repent, (turn from sin and follow God.) We are at a critical juncture. I hope that you will do all you can to fight the wicked storm that is barreling down upon us. We are in the midst of a fierce spiritual war. Satan’s time is getting near and he is going full bore to try and tear down our beautiful country, the last remaining beacon of light for the world.
Pray that God is still listening to His beloved children and will heal our land. Pray that a great revival will explode across our nation and our citizens will repent. Speak out boldly for your love of God and against tyranny, and importantly vote against those who embrace sin in the upcoming election.
Isaiah 59:2
It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.
