After full consideration I have come to the opinion that the most dangerous virus we have in America is the media. When I was growing up, I would never have believed that our country could end up where it is today when it comes to having truthful media. I see little difference than communist countries such as Iran, North Korea, China, Cuba, Venezuela, and Russia and this country, where methods may vary, but in reality, virtually nothing we read, hear, or see can be believed. It has been given the name “Fake News,” and it is the norm rather than the exception.
The deliberate disinformation written with the specific intent of misleading the public and/or damaging a person or entity to gain points politically or financially or both has increased to a point whereby we cannot tell truth from lies. For media outlets, the ability to attract viewers to their websites is necessary to generate online advertising revenue. Publishing a story containing wildly false content that attracts users benefits advertisers and improves ratings. Easy access to online advertisement revenue, increased political polarization and the popularity of social media, primarily the Facebook News Feed, have all been implicated in the spread of fake news.
It became the most prevalent when politicians and various government actors have also been implicated in generating and propagating fake news, particularly during elections. Donald Trump has been on the receiving end of more lies written and said about him than any other human being in the history of the world. He has ruthlessly been attacked from the moment he announced his candidacy right through today. Unfortunately this constant barrage of negative news does have a negative effect regarding him to average people, especially those who don’t keep up with the news.
I find it incredulous that Joe Biden is leading in some polls in the race for the presidency. I mean can you imagine him as President managing a crisis like Covid19 when he cannot even remember his own wife’s name or where he is? One of the ways the press promotes their falsehoods is to lie by omission. For example Biden is facing a sexual assault charge by a lifelong Democrat lady who worked in the White House. You won’t see it mentioned in the mainstream media and yet Judge Kavanaugh was ravaged on the news day and night.
So the media is comprised primarily of liars. It is unfair to throw them all in the same pot, but how can anyone believe anything they see on the media? How did Satan, the “Father of all lies” get control of the media? For that matter how did he gain control of the schools? How did he manage to make abortion readily acceptable? Why is pornography so widespread? How did gay marriage become acceptable?
Satan didn’t do it single-handedly and he faced little opposition. The people of the United States allowed it beginning with many of the pulpits of America and what they are now preaching. A very large poll conducted by Barna a few years ago revealed that the five most important things to pastors were as follows:
- Attendance
- Giving
- Square footage of facilities
- Number of staff
- Number of programs
If their main interests are attendance, giving etc. why would they stand before a congregation and preach against gay marriage, abortion, and other sharply divisive issues when they might run the risk of polarizing as much as half the congregation? Why, half their revenue might disappear . . . Lying is small potatoes to some of the sins they skim over. What happened to how many were baptized? How many missionaries are they supporting? How many have been trained to lead others to Christ?
God put these words on my heart one day: “The world is ruled by money; not by conviction.” Think about it . . . Pastors who know the Bible and believe it to be the word of God who ignore preaching its definitions of sin and salvation, (lying by omission,) in order to rake in more money, are adhering to the world being ruled by money and not by conviction. With money comes power and fame and conviction is swept under the couch.
All plant life has roots. The Bible states that the love of money is the root of all evil. Can the sin of this world be uprooted? No doubt about it, we will see it happen either in this life or the next. The sad thing is how many people will believe the lies of this society and lose their salvation because of the obsession with being bigger, richer, more powerful???
Alas we the little people can only do what we can do; however we must not be discouraged. Look what a roaring fire was built by twelve disciples to impact the entire world for over 2000 years. We all must do our part and not just concede defeat when facing the multitudes that rule this present age. God will take care of the liars in due time; we must focus on those who will listen to our Lord and feed them the truth with no omissions . . .
