I love the ocean. Its constant ebbs and flows remind me of life. I’ve nearly lost my life three times on the ocean after getting caught far offshore in violent storms, two of which occurred at night. But I’ve also had some of the most enjoyable times of my life during calmer seas. I accept the good with the bad and keep coming back for more, all the while trusting my Lord and Savior.

I am insignificant to the ocean. Its restless waves pound the shore regardless of me. It becomes furious or calm whether I like it or not. As I look at God’s creation it is the same. The sun comes up every morning in the east and slowly sets in the west. It doesn’t need or ask for my permission, it just follows the rules established by God.

People are born every day and die every day. Some lives are long, and some are short. Some are filled with joy and others sadness. We are tiny when compared to creation. Bill Bright once compared mankind to a microbe on the back of a flea on a dog in the master’s house. Even that is not a true comparison to the infinite glory of God.

The psalmist asked O LORD, what are human beings that you should notice them, mere mortals that you should think about them? Like the ocean, man’s days have little consequence upon the Lord; however, our never-dying souls trapped in poor dying bodies remind us of eternal consequence for man’s days. The self-importance and presumption that we sometimes delude ourselves with are but silly notions to God. When we are
sinking in the storms of life, and all other helps fail, it is God who stretches out his hand to rescue us.

For whatever reason He loves us, and we are very important to Him. That is what many fail to understand. Those who question what they deem to be unfair in life and denigrate God for what they believe are His “mistakes” in creation cannot begin to relate to
who He is.

For who can know the LORD’s thoughts? Who knows enough to give him advice?

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.

Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways, and how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?”

The ocean doesn’t care about you, but God who created it does. You are not insignificant and even the hairs of your head are numbered. This means that God knows everything about us. Everything! He wants to help, not because anyone could ever force Him to do so, but because He loves us.

Halleluiah!

The question is do you love Him? Do you trust Him? Have you made Him LORD
of your life?

Matt. 10:31

Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father in heaven.
