Many churches have an emphasis on giving to the church at this time of year. Many churchgoers quit going to church at this time of year to avoid hearing it. I used to fall into that category, butseveral years ago I changed my ways in regard to giving to the church. I can tell you from first hand experience that giving to the church and the work of the lord will increase your wealth. When I started tithing, my personal financial situation improved dramatically as did practically every other area of my life;too much so just to be a coincidence. To my knowledge the commandment to give is the only command given by God that comes with a promise. The promise is that if you obey this command, the lord will bless you for it. Plain and simple it works! We cannot out give the Lord. I can personally testify to this as can Christians all over the world. Unfortunately many Christians cannot. The statistics are that only 4-6% of evangelical Christians tithe. This is sad because theyjust do not know what blessings that they are missing out on.
Of course we should want to give to the lord because of what he has done for us. We are his children and we should obey our heavenly Father. God does not need our money, it all belongs to him anyway. What he wants is our obedience and our faith. Financial concerns are mentioned more than any subject in the Bible, some 2350 times. The “love” of money is the root of all evil. Some folks are obsessed with it.When a Christian will part with his or her hard-earned money and give it to the work of the Lord willingly and cheerfully, they have reached a milestone in their faith. If you think you cannot afford to tithe, think again. You cannot afford not to tithe.Ten per cent of our income is the requirement for the tithe. We should also give an offering that is over and above that as we feel led to give. Have faith that the lord will hold fast to his promise. If the Lord were to not deliver on his promise, then we would all be in trouble. There is not the slightest chance of that ever happening though. His Word is good for now and throughout eternity. There is no surety bond throughout creation that is more sure, than the word of almighty God.

2 Cor.9:6
But this I say; He who sows
sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and he who sows bountifully will
also reap bountifully.
So let each one give as he
purposes in his heart, not grudgingly
or of necessity, for God loves a
cheerful giver.
