I was reading this morning that Donald Trump has the exact same poll numbers that former President Obama had at this same point in his presidency. To me that is truly remarkable considering the enormity of negative press he has received, which in mainstream media is up to a whopping 95%. Likewise, he has been relentlessly bashed by celebrities, Republican and Democrat establishment, deep state, and liberals of every stripe.

I remember the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The tale was about a couple of highly successful bank robbers, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and their infamous Hole in the Wall Gang. Butch and Sundance were played by actors Paul Newman and Robert Redford. The Pinkerton company who insured the banks got sick of them robbing them, and eventually sent a posse led by “always-got-his man” marshal Joe Lefors, and a native American tracker called Lord Baltimore.

When this posse got on their trail, they were relentless and good, really good. And no matter how hard they tried to elude the posse, it would suddenly appear on the horizon in hot pursuit of Butch and Sundance.

The famous line I remember was when they did everything they could to hide their tracks, they would think they lost them when invariably they would yet again see the posse coming at full gallop. As they looked down on them from high up in the mountains, in total exasperation they would look at each other and ask: “Who are those guys?”

I suppose it is truly driving those who oppose Trump bonkers that he is not only surviving but thriving and I would imagine that they are asking themselves, “Who is this guy?”

Actually, this phenomenon began when he first ran for office. No one thought he had a snowball’s chance. Jeb Bush had establishment money approaching a billion bucks and was the early favorite, but went down in flames, and the same was true with Hillary with the billion she spent.

It seems most everyone has lied about him, made up stories, spent millions trying to destroy him, launched lawsuit after lawsuit, and yet he is just as popular as their most admired president Barrack Hussein Obama. His plans for this country are systematically being carried out no matter how negative the press makes things sound. Here is a short list of some of his major accomplishments:

1) He got conservative judge Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court.

2) The stock market is at an all-time high.

3) Consumer confidence is at an all-time high.

4) He created more than a million jobs by undoing Obama’s regulations.

5) Mortgage applications for new homes is at a 7-year high.

6) Unemployment rate is at a 16-year low.

7) Signed the promoting women in entrepreneurship act.

8) Gutted 800 Obama era regulations thus freeing up companies to hire again and get the economy moving.

9) Ended the war on coal and caused a new mine for coal mining to open that will mine clean coal. He also put the miners back to work.

10) Weakened Dodd-Frank regulations.

11) Promoted buying and hiring American worldwide.

12) Investments from major businesses such as Foxconn, Ford, Toyota, Intel and others are building here now.

13) Reduced illegal immigration by over 70%.

14) Got the tax cut passed

15) Eliminated the mandate tax in Obamacare

16) Annihilated the Isis caliphate by allowing military to conduct the war

17) Food stamps at 17 year low

Who is this guy?

He is one tough cookie that doesn’t allow the naysayers to stop him. He is brash, arrogant, brilliant, crude, a baby Christian and someone God has given us to lead this country and an unlikely person that God is using to reign in those who want a Godless socialist government.

Like him or not you have to admit he is making his mark on the entire world . . .

Sometimes God uses the exact opposite of what we would deem to be the man for the job. Trump is the right person for this thankless job. He doesn’t need to have his family drug through the mud, personal attacks, death threats, and so on. He does it because he knows he can make a difference in this country and I admire him for it. Not many if any could hold up to it. The value society places on people makes no difference to the Lord. In fact, it seems that God would rather use very common, even the despised, people to make a difference in this world.

Why?

Hmmm . . . For one thing God uses unlikely people to humble arrogant people:

Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. As a result, no one can ever boast in the presence of God.

God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the LORD.” 1 Corinthians 1:26

Another reason is to demonstrate that power comes from God and not man. Consider the example of Moses. God didn’t use Moses when he was a prince of Egypt, but when he was a nomadic shepherd. More often than not God has used the poor, sinful, and abused. God uses the unlikeliest people like Trump to confound the world.

David was an adulterer and murderer, and yet Jesus descended from his bloodline. The Apostle Paul was a murderer of Christians, but God used him to evangelize the Gentiles. Society would have rejected these people outright as they did Jesus who was born in a stable and laid in a manger. He was put to death by the “in” crowd within that society. But the grave could not contain Him and He arose to forever change the world. Merry Christmas – Oh yeah Trump made that permissible to say once again. . .  LOL

Corinthians 1:20

So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe. It is foolish to the Jews, who ask for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom. So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.

But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.

Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
