Every day a friend of mine and I read the chapter in the book of Proverbs that coincides with the date and we each find a verse that jumps out at us. So today my verse was Proverbs 25:26. I have a Living Bible with me and it reads: “If a Godly man compromises with the wicked, it is like polluting a fountain or muddying a spring.”

Whenever God calls my attention to a verse I always spend time thinking about and analyzing each word. As I thought about a fountain and spring I realized that we drink from both fountain’s and springs. Pollution or muddying would make them unfit and unsafe as a source of water that we must all drink in order to survive.

My friend wrote to tell me his verse was Proverbs 25:12, “Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold is a wise reprove to a listening ear.” He replied that it’s not reproving that’s hard. It’s wise reproving that is the challenge – because it’s not easy turning an ear into a listening ear.

The Bible warns in 2 Tim 4:3 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. I refer to these people as the “cut and paste” crowd. If you don’t like something the Bible states, such as, marriage should be between a man and a woman, then you just cut that part out and replace it with something you like better. Thus, society justifies its sins by not calling them sins.

Another example is the slaughter of innocent children. Many children were sacrificed to the idol Molech and didn’t think much about it. Ancient society embraced that horrible practice then, just as today modern society embraces abortion; however, God states that all life is sacred and that it begins in the womb. To kill a child is a terrible sin, and though God forgives sin, there are still consequences for such action such as a lifetime of regret and guilt.

Earlier Timothy states in 2 Tim. 1:13 Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching you have heard from me, with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.” Don’t allow society to corrupt your belief system my friends, particularly as we approach the last days. Stay close to the Bible. Read it for yourself and God will open Himself to you.

Jer. 1:5

Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you came forth out of the womb I sanctified you, and I ordained you a prophet to the nations.
