We are closing out another year. As I review my year I am disgusted with myself and I am very disappointed this year in my lack of progress in achieving my goals. I pretty much failed in every area including my spititual, personal, health, and career goals. Why? Lack of focus, effort, determination, and discipline. This is the first year that I can remember since entering the workforce that I have not taken time each morning to write out my goals for the day and make a determined effort to achieve them throughout the day. The poor results from my lack of effort in this area are readily understandable.
I lectured a friend of mine the other day on the brevity of life. I told him that he should live each day to the maximum. I have been thinking lately that time on this earth is quickly running out for me.
Another friend my age died last week and I am seeing more people my age dropping out like flys. This makes me think that perhaps I will not achieve several items on my list of 100 things I want to do before I die. As I think about it, I have no right to lecture anyone and try to motivate them to accomplish more when I am not making the most out of my own life. I have achieved more than most, but not nearly what I am capable of achieving. I do not think I am different in that regard than anyone else living on this planet. We could all achieve more if we were more determined, worked a little harder, set lofty goals, and were disciplined enough to put our goals to writing “every” day and make a conscious effort to complete the listy daily. I have learned through many years of experimentation that the only way I have ever succeeded was to come up with written goals and a written plan of action that I followed and worked on a “daily” basis.
God gave us the raw materials and has placed us in the greatest nation on the globe. We must do our part to achieve the greatness that He desires for us. One thing we should all have at the top of our priority list is to try understand what God’s plan for our life is and to ensure that it remains our top priority. Why not write down right now ten things that you think God wants you to do? (Hopefully the first thing on the list is to lead someone to Christ.)
Now go out there and make them happen !

John 4:35
Do you not say, “There are still
four months and then comes the
harvest”? Behold I say to you, lift up
your eyes and look at the fields, for
they are already white for harvest!
And he who reaps receives
wages, and gathers fruit for eternal
life, that both he who sows and he
who reaps may rejoice together.
How well do you know the Bible?
The foregoing pep talk about, “being all we can be”, could get us down on ourselves if we are not very careful. If we allow self worth to be measured by the world around us, we will always feel inadequate, because the world constantly assesses worth in terms of accomplishments, attractiveness, status, or wealth. Our self-worth should be based upon God’s view of us – not on public opinion. If you want to know what God thinks of you, look up these passages.
Genesis 1:27-31; Psalm 8:3-5; Psalm 138:8; Luke 12:7; 1 Peter 2:9
