I ran for office one time and was elected President of an organization in Georgia. I received no compensation and took a tremendous amount of time away from my businesses and was successful in building that organization to its largest membership in history and conducted the largest and best convention that was ever held.
One would think the membership would be grateful, but I received continual criticism from many ignorant people who didn’t lift a finger to do anything but gripe. I could not wait until my term expired and I never ran for office again for anything.
Watching Donald Trump and his family being skewered and excoriated daily by the press, the self-serving establishment, and ignoramuses reminds me so much of my experience. Trump is a billionaire who had a great life, great family, and a great business, but he saw that the country was about to implode from inept leadership, so he voluntarily gave up his wonderful lifestyle so he could face daily threats on his life and see everything he holds dear denigrated.
And we wonder why more brilliant good leaders don’t run for office. Most look at what happens in the dirty political process and simply state that they don’t need that in their lives and thus we end up with nasty political hacks and far too few qualified leaders. Those like Trump who have accomplished so much and don’t need the hassle, but go ahead and make the plunge and endure the storms are true patriots in my opinion.
Divisiveness is one of Satan’s most effective tools. He has been successful in America because we are truly a divided nation. It is not restricted to politics either, one need only look to churches and listen to the back-biting of the pastor, or leader of practically any ministry or other organization. Believers don’t have the VOICE they are entitled to because we are not unified. In working with the Jesus Alliance and trying to encourage Christians to work together I encounter the same hate mongers and divisive back biters as those found in the secular world.
Anytime anyone sticks their head above the clover and tries to implement change or spread the truth of the Gospel, it seems someone is trying to blow it off. I even receive hate mail to include death threats for writing Words for the Day. It’s mind-boggling really. Hard to believe that this daily devotional which is free of charge and one can easily unsubscribe from has generated so much ill will towards me over the past 18 years.
Being a politician doesn’t seem to be worth it to me; however, when it comes to serving God I’m willing to fight to the death if necessary. I’m glad Trump and others feel the way they do. I don’t envy Trump, because he will be the object every dirty trick in the book for his entire term and beyond as they try their utmost to destroy him and his family. He is waging war against powerful forces of evil that want to destroy this country as we know it and we need to pray for those bold leaders who are willing to put everything on the line to save our great country.
Some of these scumbags will not even stand for the National Anthem and indeed burn our flag. They curse the God that created them in His own image and ridicule anyone who wants to live a wholesome and righteous life. They will win some battles, but they will lose the war. I’ve read the last words in the Bible and it comforts me to remember it every time I read some idiotic letter lambasting me for believing the Bible.
