A good friend of mine ran for a local election yesterday. Before his campaign was finally over last night he had traveled from one end of the county to the other and had shaken nearly 4000 hands which is almost the entire population base for the county job to which he was trying to get elected. He worked as hard as anyone I’ve ever seen, beginning his campaign way back in the summer, but alas he lost by a little less than 200 votes.
My wife and I went to his election night “celebration” last night at one of his supporter’s homes. We left before the final tally but got a text late that night which said he had lost a few hours later. It is a shame that he lost because I don’t believe anyone would have worked any harder for our impoverished county which sorely needs a guy like him out there trying to help our citizens. As it turns out, the guy who did win hasn’t done anything for the county in his previous tenure and I have no doubt that trend will continue. He just draws a check. Sigh…
My buddy told me he would hold his head high no matter if he won or lost, but I feel sure it hurt to lose after putting in all the work. I invited him over to go deer hunting when he gets some rest and I’m sure he will deal with his loss with honor and class as things get back to normal.
I saw winners and losers from last night’s elections, and albeit I know there must be winners and losers in an election, too often it seems to me the good guys lose, and the bad ones win. As I viewed the results of last night’s elections this morning I sadly shook my head and wondered what some of these voters are thinking. Ohio voted to extend abortion and legalized pot. The first state “trans” candidate was elected. Though she didn’t win, a 40-year-old nurse practitioner, and her husband, attorney John David Gibson, performed livestreamed sex acts to raise money on a porn chat site while masturbating. Is this the commentary of what our citizens desire for elected officials.
President Biden urged in a fundraising social media post and text: “Across the country tonight, democracy won and MAGA lost. Voter’s vote. Polls don’t. Now let’s go win next year,”. Yes our President is declaring that trans folks getting elected, abortion being extended, pot being legalized, and even a candidate performing sex online to raise money for her campaign, are his idea of democracy and being a winner due to the way our nation votes.
This reminds me of what the Bible declares about this dilemma:
Jeremiah 17:9 – The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Then the Bible tells us the something to think about: 2 Timothy 4:3.
For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. Well, if last night is any indication for what people want to hear, then we are in bad shape.
So what do we do? Pray and fast is all I can think of. God can resolve this evil and perhaps if we pray and fast He will hear from heaven, forgive us, and heal our land. We must ask forgiveness and without repentance there can be no recompence.
2 Timothy 3:1
But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come.
