Yesterday I went fishing with some new friends on their boat. I don’t allow political discussion on my own boat because I just want to fish and have some fun. Such was not the case on my buddy’s boat and a husband-wife team that he asked to come along were in a political ranting mode for much of the trip.
The subject came up of President Biden’s failing mental acuity. They were concerned about what would happen if his failing mental health resulted in the invocation of the 26th amendment and he was removed from office. One of them solemnly told us that if VP Harris took over for Biden’s remaining two years, it did not count against the two terms she could serve, meaning she could serve ten years instead of eight.
They all were very concerned about this prospect. I finally spoke up and said that she couldn’t get elected dogcatcher and the possibility of that occurrence was about as remote as the farthest star from earth.
I don’t mean to belittle anyone but what has happened to logic and common sense? Geez . . . get a grip. I cannot imagine spending my days immersed in such nonsensical political drivel.
A friend wears a shirt that is emblazoned with the words, “Shut-up and fish”. It is profound philosophy in my mind. As a matter of fact, I think we should practice this philosophy when we aren’t fishing.
I often think of God watching us have conversations such as the one we had. Is He amused? I don’t think so. I think He gets furious when people don’t have faith in Him. He has told us that He has this, and we will be provided for, but it never seems to click with so many of us. God does not want us to doubt Him or worry and none of us can blame Him. He spoke this world into existence. The prophet Samuel narrowly turned away God’s anger by fervently praying for them when Israel doubted His direct leadership and sinned by asking for a king to rule them instead of God. Why is this in the Bible? Because He is telling us in no uncertain terms not to put our faith in man but in Him.
I used to have a sign that I taped to my telephone when I was a CEO. It said in red letters: THINK! When I picked up the phone, I had to read that sign and though I hate to admit it, I sometimes didn’t follow its sage advice. Many times, however, I did stop and think because of that little sign and it saved me much embarrassment in nudging me to stop and think rather than blurting out what was on my hot-headed mind in times of crisis.
Our country is facing a crisis of huge proportions on many fronts. We are at all-out war with Satan and his entire demonic realm, but we need to stop and THINK! Yes, Lucifer is a powerful enemy with media, schools, big business, government, Hollywood, and yes even many churches under his command, but he is no match for our Savior. God is patient, merciful, and compassionate, but He is also a fearful righteous judge who will set things right at the time of His choosing. We need to relax and leave the driving to Him.
No matter how dire the situation you are enduring you should keep the faith my friends and focus on Jesus, don’t worry, do what we can to add to His kingdom, and leave the rest in His capable hands. We should be confident and encouraged and not act like defeated whipped puppies.
Ecclesiastes 5:2
Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few.
