I slept hard last night, a rarity for me. So, I stumbled into my office rubbing my eyes and muttering to myself, and read an email from a reader of Words for the Day that was a demonic attack and discouraging. I was thinking I would respond in kind but decided to walk out on my deck for a moment and think it over first.

The weather here is not the greatest today and dark clouds loom on the horizon, but as I stood there the sun’s glorious appearance shone through at the base of the clouds.

I thought about this and viewed it as a sign from Jesus and was cheered up a bit that even when darkness engulfs us, there is always God’s light breaking through. I pulled out my phone and snapped a photo and as I stood there more clouds rolled in and the sun disappeared.

I took a photo of that too.

So, I came back in and decided not to answer the nasty letter. I feel the Lord was demonstrating that in this world we will endure darkness and stormy weather, but He is always there. Though we might not see His presence, we can be assured that He is carefully watching over us and we should just take the high road.

Psalm 19:1 states, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.” This is one of the clearest biblical statements that nature itself is meant to show the greatness of God. These words are in the present tense. That is, the heavens “are declaring,” and the sky “is proclaiming” the creative work of God. It’s a continual display. What we see in nature is meant to constantly show us that God exists and tell us how amazing a Creator He truly is. This morning I received a good taste of this Scripture. Romans 1 also ties into this idea. God has revealed enough of Himself in nature that nobody has an excuse for rejecting Him or for doing what is wrong. “Since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities . . . have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made” (Romans 1:20). The heavens declare the glory of God.

My friends when you feel all alone and the cares of this world are dragging you down and you feel like just striking out, focus on the heavens to get you back on track. Worked for me.

John 16:33
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
