So yesterday I went to a men’s prayer breakfast, The Gathering, in West Palm Beach. The breakfast started at 6:30 a.m. It was at a hotel way out by the airport and I had to leave so early I didn’t have time to write Words for the Day unless I waited until I returned. I called my friend Al Cuneo and asked if he and his son George could send out a rerun of an old post and they did.

I was thanking Al profusely for helping me out and he said that he was delighted to do so because it gave them an opportunity to do something for the Lord in their own small way. There is no small way in serving the Lord and nothing goes unnoticed by Him and I told Al, “God bless you for all you guys do.”  We continued to talk, and I asked what he’d been up to lately, and he told me that he had become so sickened by the news and the constant Trump bashing that he couldn’t watch it even for five minutes and felt the same way about sports; (he is an FSU fan.) He told me that he just worked until exhausted and then slept.

I understand how Al feels and I cannot stomach the news either. I’m a Georgia Bulldogs fan and though not as bad as FSU they have not lived up to expectations. The other team I follow, the Atlanta Falcons I have completely abandoned due to their dismal showing. Should I just work myself to utter exhaustion and sleep and then get up and do it again? Is there more to life than disgusting lying politicians and commentators on television and bad football teams?

Well of course there is. If you have fallen into a coma due to fake news, bad sports teams, or whatever, take heart, the entire world awaits you. There are fascinating things to be seen and accomplished. I was reading the creation account in Genesis this morning as I venture into going through the entire Bible one more time. As I read about everything being created and heard God declare “It is good!” I tried to imagine how it must have been to see from His vantage point all that He had created on this planet and the heavens and it was mind boggling. The mountains, the valleys, rivers, waterfalls, seas, deserts, plains, myriads of creatures; all things great and small were created for our mutual enjoyment and well-being. There was no need for a cell phone, computer, television set, or any of what our society deems as essentials.

My friends it is good without all of that junk. And all is well with your soul. Just stop and take a look. Politicians and bad sports teams are not what this world is about. Listen to the music, gaze at the ocean, watch a deer at sunrise, ride your bike, go to a Gathering of hundreds of Godly people and pray and encourage one another, eat a fine meal, watch your kids and grandkids play soccer, and most of all attend church and learn all you can about the God who loves you.

Job 12:7

“But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
    the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;
    and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
Who among all these does not know
    that the hand of the Lord has done this?
In his hand is the life of every living thing
    and the breath of all mankind. —

Have a great weekend and go to church this Sunday!
