I read an interesting set of statistics generated by Prager University this morning concerning the vote of our young people less than 25 years of age in our recent election. It seems that 64% of them supported left wing candidates and policies. A whopping 78% voted to support the radical policies of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex to include,

  • Free college for all
  • Universal job guarantee
  • Medicare for all.

From all appearances it looks as though we are heading full steam towards socialism as more young people become indoctrinated by left wing teachers, professors and the media. Will America look like Venezuela, Cuba, or China if something is not done about it? It is these young people who will answer that question, because it is they who will run the country in just a few more short years.

I’m tempted like so many other people to just ignore it and spend the rest of my days fishing, hunting, engaging in travel, and spending time with family and friends. Instead I continue working on the Jesus Alliance in an effort to get the truth out against overwhelming odds. Trying to compete with the left-wing radical George Soros Free Society Foundation of which he added another $18 billion in 2017 alone, the Carnegie Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, The Tides Foundation and countless others is like David going against Goliath 1000X.

This past weekend I went on a prison ministry event and I was looking around at the inmates. So many young people and minorities were among those incarcerated there it made me sick. One young guy gave me a card upon which he had written a detailed note. He asked me to read it later and told me that he had been diagnosed with cancer and told he wasn’t going to make it. I tried to encourage him that miracles happen, and he said with a large smile that he wasn’t worried about it, he had made his peace with the Lord and was ready to meet Him. I read the card after the event and he was asking me to pray for his kids and others in his family. Nothing about praying for him, but he was deeply concerned about his family.

I have a birthday coming up and I’m reaching an age where I see my time is getting shorter and shorter. I realize I will not live long enough to see what becomes of my grandkids and their kids. I used to plant Longleaf Pine trees on my plantation. This species is the slowest growing pine and most landowners will not plant them preferring the fast-growing slash pine and other rapidly growing pines with more commercial appeal.  The Longleaf however, is truly magnificent when fully mature and is the king of all pines. Though I will not live long enough to see them mature, it was worthwhile to plant them. It makes me smile at the thought of someone standing underneath these towering beautiful pines enjoying their beauty and benefiting from my vision and effort 50 years earlier.

That is similar to how I look at my work with the Jesus Alliance. We are trying to reach people for Christ and the things of Christ in a world of secularism that is trying its utmost to destroy the message of God. Someone has to go against the fully funded left-wing propagandists and meet their anti-God messaging with the truth. When they declare, “There is no God.” We need to be right there saying, “Oh, but there is, and He loves you with all of His heart!” I for one am not willing to concede that we are incapable of getting God’s message out in this day of left-wing control of education, media, arts and entertainment, business and other spheres of our culture. Early Christians fought the persecution of Romans, Babylonians, the Persians, and others and faced a much worse situation as they all tried to stamp God’s word out and send it into oblivion.  Patience my friends, it was THEY that disappeared from the face of the earth and the Word of God that prevailed. We just need to remain faithful in times of triumph and disaster.

A friend stopped by on his way home from a wedding yesterday and he surprised me by giving me a birthday gift that was one of the best gifts imaginable. He gave me a birthday card and inside was a donation of $1000 made out to the Jesus Alliance. We will be planting more seedlings with it to be sure. I told the inmates this weekend that no one should be without hope because we are protected by the mighty hand of Jesus who loves us. We serve an all-powerful God and He is in control even when some get discouraged due to perceiving Him as being disinterested and disengaged. He is still on the throne and watching with interest as we walk in faith or abandon it. We need prayer for this country and in particular for our youth. We need to get the truth out particularly to our youth. Like the magnificent Longleaf we need to plant our seedlings and nurture them to grow tall and strong even if we will not be around to see them when they reach maturity.

You can be a part of the solution or contribute to the problem by withdrawing from the battle and conceding to defeat as being inevitable. As for me I elect to continue to fight the good fight. Onward!

1 Cor 9:25

Everyone who competes in the games trains with strict discipline. They do it for a crown that is perishable, but we do it for a crown that is imperishable.
