The original sin was pride. The truth, is that sinful pride has been around since the beginning of time and was the catalyst for the downfall of mankind and 1/3 of the angels in heaven. I have observed people every day, who have let pride hold them back. It is easy to spot.
Humility is also easy to spot. Jesus wants us to be humble. It is a pleasure working with those who quietly go about their jobs, and it is a major pain working with those who loudly go about their jobs demanding their “rightful” place. Don’t get me wrong I think everyone should take pride in a job well done. Just let your work do your talking.
I remember hearing of a football coach who became exasperated with a young player who scored a touchdown and then proceeded to put on an end zone dancing exhibition that was embarrassing to the entire team. When he finally exited the field, the coach pulled him aside and sternly instructed the player that the next time he scored a TD, he was to, “try and act like he had been there before”.
Jesus had more to be proud of than any other person who lived on this earth, yet He was humble and gentle. The King of Kings was born in a manger. He did not ride in a carriage of gold, he walked where he went.
He did not brag and insist that He go first, even though he rightfully deserved to sit on the highest throne. Jesus Christ is the Supreme Being of all creation yet He set an example for us of being humble, kind and gentle. He always considered the plight of others, particularly the least of humanity. We need to remember the example of Jesus on His knees washing the feet of His disciples the next time pride rears its ugly head in our hearts. We should never look down on anyone.
We have nothing and are nothing aside from what was lovingly given to us by a
Lord who loves us in spite of our shortcomings. Pride does not come from God. Grace comes from God.

John 2:16
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father, but is of the world.
