I was curious about how the leftists would combat the string of impressive wins for the Trump presidency and how they would bash him with such good news coming in the last couple of weeks. Now I know, they just ignore the successes and attack on another unfounded issue. Now they have latched on to the incredulous story of mean old Trump separating kids from their parents and (on Father’s Day no less.) In actuality, this practice was started by the Bush and Obama administrations, though the press kept it quiet.
The truth is that according to United States law, children cannot be arrested for breaking the law, but their parents can, and that causes the dilemma. The children are labeled “unaccompanied minors” and sent to government custody or foster care, the parents are labeled criminals for breaking the law and sent to jail to await a trial or hearing.
To be clear, there is no official Trump policy stating that every family entering the US without papers has to be separated. What the policy states is that all adults caught crossing into the US illegally are supposed to be criminally prosecuted — and when that happens to a parent, separation is inevitable. The Trump administration puts it bluntly: Criminal defendants don’t have a right to have their children with them in jail – it is the law of the land. He urges Congress to work together and change the law, but like blaming guns instead of criminals for shootings, they blame Trump instead of the law breakers.
I love kids and hate the thought of them being separated from their parents, but this dilemma is not unique to illegal immigrants. Having been in prison ministry for over 30 years I’ve talked with inmates in United States prisons, both men and women, who were separated from their kids and it is one of the worst things they face. It is however, a consequence of their behavior. We could allow them to break the law and not incarcerate them because they have children, but few would think that it is a good solution to allow lawbreakers to avoid punishment. We could allow the children to serve time in jail with their parents, but prison is no place to raise kids. The temporary solution is to put the kids in foster care until they can be placed with a relative already living in the United States, and put the parents in jail to await trial, but the system is overloaded, and it is a slow process.
The real answer is in building the wall and ensuring that those who want to enter our country do so legally, and go through a port of entry and not try to enter the country illegally. Sadly, the hordes keep coming and short of opening borders to anyone who wants to come into this country, such as terrorists, or MS13 gang members, the dilemma is not easily fixed.
Democrats are not about to give this issue up, it is all they have. Trump has the economy on fire with the lowest levels of unemployment in 44 years, GDP at 4.8, stock market soaring, wages up, diplomatic efforts such as North Korea meeting unprecedented success, regulations disappearing, good judges being appointed, etc. On immigration though they can liken him to a Nazi and lie about him being the author of this law, while ignoring the fact that his predecessors including Obama did the exact same thing. The Trump-hating press claims the kids are kept in cages and on and on with lie after lie.
Europe is reeling from their open border policies with millions upon millions of people pouring into their country. Merkel’s administration is being predicted to topple this very week due to the backlash brought on by the murders, rapes, drugs, and other crime, not to mention the taxpayer paid strain on services brought on by foreigners, who don’t speak the language and have a different culture.
If only Democrats and Republicans would stop the lies and sit down and find a reasonable plan to strengthen our border and allow in only the people who love this country. And if only frogs had wings, they wouldn’t bust their butt every time they hopped.
Provers 6:16
There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
