Anytime there is a mass shooting everyone and his brother comes out against guns. Hillary was the fastest on the draw, but the left-wing media and their many allies were quick to follow. As usual the facts get lost in the hysteria. Check out these facts that I ironically extracted from the site Just Facts:
- Based on production data from firearm manufacturers, there were roughly 371 million firearms owned by private citizens and domestic law enforcement in the United States in 2014. Of these, about 146 million were handguns.
- Roughly 14,249 murders were committed in the United States during 2014. Of these, about 9,675 or 68% were committed with firearms.
Hmmm . . . 371 million firearms 9,675 murders
- A nationwide survey of 4,977 households found that over the previous five years, at least 0.5% of households had members who had used a gun for defense during a situation in which they thought someone “almost certainly would have been killed” if they “had not used a gun for protection.” This amounted to 162,000 such incidents per year. This excludes all “military service, police work, or work as a security guard.”
- Based on survey data from a study published in the Journal of Quantitative Criminology, U.S. civilians use guns to defend themselves and others from crime at least 989,883 times per year.
Hmmm . . . 162,000 lives saved – nearly a million defended themselves
There are many more facts on various websites, but it is obvious that the simple black and white facts indicate that guns do more to protect innocent people than kill innocent people.
So, after the Las Vegas shooting someone got on my Facebook page and made a case for gun control and I responded that places like Chicago which have the most stringent gun control laws in the country, also have the most murders using guns. He responded by saying he lived in Chicago and the problem was not as big as people make it out to be.
Oh Really? Please explain a recent headline on CBS local news concerning Chicago’s one month kill stats that had the headline: 410 shot – 74 fatally in Chicago in July 2017. Not exactly what the local chamber wants to get out there. A look at Baltimore, Detroit, and elsewhere is similar. Does anyone ever consider that just maybe it could be that the problem stems from absentee fathers creating single parent households and no family unit, a welfare system gone awry, drugs, poverty, no jobs, immorality, a lack of Christian upbringing?
I don’t minimize the importance of trying our utmost to prevent psychopaths and religious fanatics from getting guns and destroying lives, but that is not the goal of those that would take away 2nd amendment rights. They want to take ALL guns away. They say they want sensible laws, but their literature states that their ultimate goal is to take away all guns. There is nothing sensible about their mission.
I made another comment on Facebook that one of the deterrents that has kept other countries from invading us on our own soil is gun ownership. Every dictatorship’s first move has been to confiscate guns from the populace. This comment was ridiculed by those supporting gun laws, with one “deep thinker” saying, “What invaders”? He clings to hysteria and ignores historical facts. Consider some of these invaders:
The most ruthless mass murder of all time Mao Tze Tung wrote:
“All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party.”
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Mass murderer Adolf Hitler at a dinner talk on April 11, 1942 said:
“The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let’s not have any native militia or native police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order throughout the occupied Russian territories, and a system of military strong-points must be evolved to cover the entire occupied country.”
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.
Josef Stalin, the sole leader of the Soviet Union from 1924 to 1953, said:
“If the opposition disarms, well and good. If it refuses to disarm, we shall disarm it ourselves.”
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Idi Amin, president of Uganda from 1971 to 1979, said:
“I do not want to be controlled by any superpower. I myself consider myself the most powerful figure in the world, and that is why I do not let any superpower control me.”
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.
Bradlee Dean wrote in the Freedom Outpost: “Our forefathers did not arm the American people for the purpose of hunting, but rather to protect themselves from those who were doing the hunting, namely the tyrant King George. The second amendment is only to vouchsafe our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, and to ensure all of the other rights given unto us by our Creator.
The wisdom of the framers of the Constitution once again is found consistent with the lessons of the Bible they used as their bedrock for civil law. The people’s individual protection should always be a primary concern of government “of the people”. In a righteous country, self-government reigns by the constraint of Christian morals. The civil government that desires such a monopoly of force (i.e. they are the only ones with guns) is a threat to the lives, liberty, and property of its citizens, for that government ceases to be “of and for the people.”
George Washington, our first president, said:
“From the hour the Pilgrims landed, to the present day, events, occurrences, and tendencies prove that to insure peace, security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable . . . the very atmosphere of firearms everywhere restrains evil interference – they deserve a place of honor with all that is good.”
It is a terrible thing when a madman goes on a rampage and begins killing people whether he uses a gun, homemade bomb, machete, or a truck running over people. We cannot stop every crazy loon by making law after law. What if that same guy had run over those same people in Las Vegas with a large truck as happened in Germany. Would they demand a law that we cannot drive a truck? The first step is to determine how that guy got all those guns, explosives, and other weapons. Then see how best to deter the next nut from taking similar action.
I am not an emotional person, but yesterday I shed tears during my prayer time as I prayed for this nation and what it has become. Laws against prayer, the Bible, and freedom of religion are the ones that need to be changed back to what the founders of our constitution intended. Unless this nation returns to becoming one nation under God again, the black hearts of haters and murderers will not only exist but grow stronger and prevail. As for me, if that happens I want a gun in my pocket to protect myself and my family.
2 Peter 2;20
And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.”
