Yesterday I attended a meeting on behalf of the Jesus Alliance and met with a prominent figure in the fight against sex trafficking. Her name is Brook Bello and she is currently working towards obtaining her third PHD. She has received numerous honors for her work and recently traveled to Washington D. C. to receive a Distinguished Service award from the President of the United States at a Whitehouse ceremony. Brook is accomplished in many areas, she has been an actress, filmmaker, author, and currently has founded and serves as CEO for a non-profit called More to Life https://moretoolife.org/whatwedo/ whose mission statement is:
ADVANCING VICTIMS OF ALL FORMS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE & HUMAN TRAFFICKING WHILE IMPLEMENTING YOUTH CRIME AND DEMAND PREVENTION METHODS TO CHANGE THE WAY AMERICA AND POP CULTURE VIEWS EXPLOITATION AND END IT.
She is currently helping some 1200 survivors first-hand with this ministry and millions worldwide through other projects.
The amazing thing about Brook is that she is a survivor of sex trafficking herself. She suffered horribly including forced heroin addiction by the traffickers and sexual and physical abuse that was barbaric to an extent that it very nearly took her life. She escaped, I believe, due to Divine Providence and went on to be a major player in fighting the industry that enslaved her.
It has not been without cost. She has received numerous death threats and now carries a firearm to protect herself from those who don’t want her interfering with their money-making machine which amounts to billions.
Finding ways to curb sex trafficking of children is a major priority for the Jesus Alliance. I have conducted a significant amount of research on this problem, but was aghast and sickened to learn additional details from Brook such as it is common for children as young as 3 years old to be raped with the earliest recorded attack at just 4 months… Let that sink in for a moment . . . Four months! Brook showed me photos of survivors in her program that were raped beginning at 3 years old.
I have attended many prison ministry events where we would go into special units that house pedophiles and I can tell you it required tremendous prayer on my part to attempt to witness to, and pray with them. Frankly without intervention from the Holy Spirit I could not have participated. Some had been convicted of raping one year old children. Brook told me that this satanic industry is now paying women to have babies for the specific purpose of selling them to these animals who want to rape them.
Ugh . . . Lord help us . . .
If you might think this problem is small or isolated, then think again – It is global. According to a recent report by NBC News that I just posted on my Facebook page, nearly 400 children were rescued and 348 adults arrested following an “extraordinary” international child pornography that resulted in the seizure of terabytes of videos showing rapes of children that are too horrific to describe in this column. The Lord recently put on my heart to go to Washington D.C. and convince some of my lawmaker friends in congress to introduce legislation that will make it a federal crime for anyone to sexually abuse a child. By reducing the number of sexual predators who are creating the demand for it, we can reduce the problem more effectively than just locking up the pimps that are selling them.
Currently states are attempting to stop it, but penalties vary wildly from state to state and in some cases those who commit these crimes get off with a slap on the wrist. It is treated more as merely soliciting prostitutes. I believe that even first time offenders should receive stiff fines, jail time, and most importantly be required to register as sex offenders for a minimum of five years as part of their punishment.
Even though this issue crosses partisan lines, since so much money is involved via organized crime and cartels, combined with the fact that many people in extremely high positions engage in this activity, it might prove difficult to pass this legislation. Therefore, once I can convince a champion to write and introduce the legislation it is my hope to use the Jesus Alliance and its many friends to convince people to notify their representatives in the house and senate that we demand that these penalties be overwhelmingly passed. Think about this: If congress can make it a federal crime to perpetrate hate crimes for race, gender, sexual preference etc. it can certainly pass legislation to protect our children.
BTW – If you disagree that the Jesus Alliance should be involved in this project perhaps you don’t know your Bible. In Matthew 18:26 Jesus said; But if you cause one of these little ones who trusts in me to fall into sin, it would be better for you to have a large millstone tied around your neck and be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Jesus loves children and our organization, which incorporates His Holy name, should proudly do all it can to protect these “little ones” from sexual predators that want to ravage them to fulfill their demonic lusts. Our primary goals at the Jesus Alliance are to Unite Christians and Equip them with awareness and other resources to Motivate all believers to Act to be a part of establishing God’s Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. If we play even a small part in protecting children from those who desire to harm them, then I believe our Lord will smile upon us forever.
