Today’s headline declares that Subway spokesman Jared Fogle who became the sandwich chain’s spokesman in 2000 after losing weight as a freshman at Indiana University by eating an all-Subway diet, is expected to plead guilty to charges of possession of child pornography. He is 37 years old.
The terms of his plea bargain have yet to be determined; however it is a safe bet that he will spend time in prison. They don’t like child sex offenders behind the walls and he will have a tough time of it. Additionally Subway immediately cancelled his lucrative contract which will make it exceedingly difficult to obtain another job when he gets out of prison. He will be shunned as a sex offender for the rest of his life and society will revile him.
This comes alongside another porn headline, Ashley Madison, an online dating site aimed at people who wish to have extramarital affairs was hacked and the names of its millions of clients who desired extramarital affairs were released to the public. A shocking 1 in 5 residents of Ottawa Canada are said to be users of this service.
Yikes! This might prove to be the next California gold rush for divorce attorneys.
I watched a video clip of a man standing on a dock at the edge of the ocean during a storm. Suddenly a huge wave hit the dock exploding it and sweeping the man away. One minute he was standing there and the next he was gone washed away to a watery grave. It reminds me of sin. Stand too close to it and soon you find yourself swept away.
The Bible lists many sins and tells us not to commit them. Some in society hate the Bible because it does so. The homosexual lobby is even suing Tyndale and another Bible publisher for $80 million dollars in an attempt to have them remove warnings about homosexuality as a sin from the Bible.
Why do you suppose God tells us that certain things are sins? It’s because He loves us. As previously noted there are serious consequences for sin and God wants to spare us the agony of living through it. Take homosexuality again as an example, gay people have a shorter life expectancy by a wide margin that is akin to what it was in the United States in the 1800’s; then there are diseases that are unique to their sexual practices including AIDS; they experience more physical abuse in relationships; have a higher degree of stress and suicide than the rest of society; and so forth.
I’m not picking on homosexuals. Estimates for gay weddings are 10,000 for 2015. Currently there are some 2300 divorces recorded PER DAY; 94% of people have sex outside of marriage, 35% of men commit adultery – 17% of women; and 82% of African American mothers raise their children alone in single parent households. There are extreme consequences for these sins, just ask those affected by them.
Look at the Bible as an owner’s manual. God created us and knows what will lead to a peaceful, joyous, and loving existence. If we try our utmost to follow the instructions set forth in our owner’s manual, we will fare far better than if we choose to ignore it.
God offers forgiveness for sin, but that does not mean that we can escape its consequences. I contracted Hepatitis C either through dirty needles or from a car wreck that I had while drunk. (I endured 7 blood transfusions of untested blood that might have been tainted with the virus that night). While God forgave me of those sins many years ago, I still endure the consequences of my folly.
The best advice is to follow Jesus and not the world. Don’t do like the man standing on the dock who in an instant was swept away. And if you get caught up in sin and suffer the consequences, don’t blame God. He loves us and has warned us to avoid sin and to seek righteousness . . . Also keep in mind that there are EVERLASTING consequences for rejecting the only Son of God. Selah . . .

If the righteous is repaid on earth, how much more the wicked and the sinner!
