Last week one of the readers of Words for the Day wrote and told me he was struggling finding something that he could do to further the kingdom. He mentioned that he had a beautiful wife, great kids, terrific job, nice home, friends galore, and yet something was missing. He attended church once a week, but that was about it. He could not find peace because God had put on his heart that he needed to do more for His kingdom.
After reading about a project in which volunteers were needed to assist in getting my book Miracle on Luckie Street placed in more states, he volunteered to help. It has already been placed in prisons statewide in several states, but I just have not had the time to put in the effort required to get it placed in all prisons in all states. Though I donate the books and ship them free of charge, it is still difficult to get cooperation and it requires some time spent jumping through several bureaucratic hoops (and usually fighting demonic forces every step of the way) to get it done.
So this reader called me and I gave him some tips as to how I’d been successful in getting it in some of the states, and before we got off the phone he chose Arizona as his state. Yesterday he proudly sent me a list of all of the Arizona prisons, their addresses, and contact persons; he had his first state approved and ready to receive shipment. I will be sending the books out before the end of the week. Mission accomplished!
He was so happy about his success that the ended his e-mail: “Pick a state . . . Any state . . . 🙂 I’ll get after it next”.
Though on the surface this might seem to be a small thing, I can tell you from experience gleaned in other states that thousands of inmates who will read those books and some will receive Christ and “all” will be greatly encouraged and receive hope in what they perceive to be their hopeless situations.
Had this man not chosen to take time away from his important job and busy day in order to contact me and later to work on this project, most all of those inmates would never be afforded this opportunity. This gentleman’s effort will pay big dividends for many years to come. He will likely never meet or even be aware of most of the lives he has touched with this project until he reaches heaven, but rest assured God is watching every move and will one day reveal to him the impact derived from his effort.
Just imagine you being the instrument that God uses to rescue someone out of hell and eternal damnation. It begins with obedience and in deciding that we will not ignore the Lord.
I probably sound like a broken record, but I feel led by the Holy Spirit to encourage you to use your gifts to serve Jesus Christ. God has a purpose for all of our lives. He created each one of us for His purpose and it will ultimately glorify the name of Jesus Christ. I pray that each of you will find your purpose and be obedient in fulfilling it. I promise it will be more rewarding than any material thing that one might garner or accomplish in this life. I know this because I’ve tried just about everything and the only lasting satisfaction that I’ve ever received came from serving God.
So when you look at it from that perspective God has given us a great undeserved opportunity through grace to enjoy life to its fullest. Thank you Jesus for allowing me to serve!
BTW – If you don’t have a project shouting out to you, many states remain – If you wish to participate, contact me and we’ll get you started . . .
2 Tim. 1:9
For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time – to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.
