Yesterday a pastor friend of mine, (Dale Glading), responded to Words for the Day about being lambasted by the haters in the LGBT community. He wrote in part: “Hey Bob, I’m getting to be in your class because after issuing a press release defending traditional marriage (and the newspaper writing a story about it); I have been called a right-wing bigot, a minister who supports hate and bigotry, and my favorite . . . a backwoods Bible-thumping moron from Florida. Like you referenced in today’s devotional message, I am drawing much strength from Matthew 5:10-12 these days.
June marks the beginning of my 17th year of writing WFTD and believe me I’ve been sent hate mail that makes this look like mere child’s play including death threats. I used to respond and invite them down to come see me, but have mellowed out due to the teachings of Jesus (and the constant harping of my wife) admonishing such behavior.
It seems the gay community began their quest in order to achieve greater tolerance from those who do not share their views. They did achieve that goal, but unfortunately now they are anything but tolerant themselves, and will terrorize anybody who disagrees with them. I know one lady who has a ministry in San Diego who has been followed around town, cursed in parking lots, and received all kinds of vicious hate mail. Her husband’s business and contracts with Walmart and other companies are disappearing because of the pressure and threats being waged to convince them to drop them, and she is spending most days crying and literally hiding in her own home.
Her crime? She came out against gay marriage in California and hosted a Tea Party meeting.
It’s not just ministers getting lambasted, Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich was forced to resign after protests from gay marriage supporters for donating $1000 way back in 2008 to support Proposition 8, a California measure to ban same-sex marriage in California, (which by the way passed). It seems odd to me that President Obama and Hillary also both said in 2008 that they felt that marriage should be between a man and a woman too, but they were given a pass.
While gay activists applauded the move, many in the technology community lamented the departure of Eich, who invented the programming language Javascript and co-founded Mozilla. Though highly qualified he became the sacrificial lamb to appease the liberal Progressives and to halt the protests that take away from that almighty bottom line.
This is political correctness at its worst and increasingly browbeating people into remaining silent is the norm. It is a fact that a small minority of people has become militantly intolerant, unwilling to let Christians, or even non-Christian executives express their personal viewpoints on issues unrelated to their jobs, thus we are giving in to their terroristic style mob rule.
I fear that it will get worse before it gets better unless Christians and those who value their right to speak to any issue with impunity band together as the LGBT, atheists, environmentalists, and other organizations have done.
We must act courageously and not be ashamed to proclaim the word of God or make no mistake free speech will disappear like the Passenger Pigeons, not to mention facing the wrath of God for remaining silent.
Mark 8:38
“If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
