I went fishing at the first crack of dawn this morning. It was very enjoyable to see the sun coming up, hearing the constant din of turkeys gobbling in the distance, and watching various herons and ibis lazily circling high above and finally landing in the pond in which I was fishing. I caught a nice Bass with my first cast and complemented it with four more before I left to come home in order to write Words for the Day.
I was joined by our plantation manager who caught several nice fish and we had a good time. I’m going to miss Honey Lake and seeing God’s glorious fingerprints all over it. I try not to get too worked up about it, because wherever I settle I will see the work of God’s beautiful mind and handiwork. After selling Honey Lake I plan on spending my winters living somewhere in south Florida and buying another deep sea fishing boat. In the hot summers I will spend some time in the lofty elevations of Colorado and other high country locales.
All I need is a solid Internet connection, a clear cell phone signal and close proximity to an excellent airport in order to do my ministry work, so in spite of feeling some remorse in leaving Honey Lake Church, the friends, the community, and the land that I love, I’m excited to see what else God has in store for me in my next great adventure.
Someone visited me the other day and stood looking at the view from my home of Honey Lake and remarked that he didn’t know I could possibly leave that view. I asked if he had ever left the boat dock at dawn heading for his favorite blue water fishing grounds and seen the azure blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Had he ever daydreamed of all of the fish that would be caught that day while listening to the boat engines humming their way towards the breaking sun. And best of all had he ever felt the sea breeze in his face and smelled the glorious aroma of the ocean as the sleek fishing boat cut through rolling waves.
I asked if he had ever heard the soulful bugle of a big bull elk while he sat high on a ridge glassing him and his large herd of cows as they traversed their way through the rocky mountain trails across the canyon at 7000 feet. I have and I tell you it is a lovely experience.
God’s presence is everywhere if we just choose to look around and acknowledge Him.
I watched a documentary of some rock and roll stars over the weekend and their horrible lives filled with addictions, divorces, and sorrow. It’s difficult to understand how someone who seemingly has so much going for them could be so unhappy.
I think that it is because they aren’t focused on the eternal glory of God, rather their own glory which will be short lived. It seems the world is racing around trying to find what their soul is crying out for but cannot find it because they look in the wrong places and don’t recognize God even when He is right in front of them.
I urge you to take time today and look for the glorious hand of God. You will find it if you look. Focus on God while there is yet time. Soon God will gather his children and withdraw His Spirit and the things of the world will quickly die like a beautiful flower deprived of water on a simmering hot summer day in the desert.
God bless you on this last day of the very special Memorial Day holiday commemorating those brave soldiers who have defended our nation. Freedom is not free and comes at a great price. Thank you veterans and God bless you!
Finally please pray for healing for my wife Teresa today who is suffering from a reaction to a shot designed to increase her bone marrow capacity in producing white corpuscles. She is in excruciating pain and very weak and has been that way since last Thursday.
Luke 19:41
“ . . . ‘If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace – but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”
