This weekend I traveled to Dallas Texas where I joined 650 Teammates, including 190 freshmen and we went into 21correctional units scattered across a huge area that extended all of the way down to Waco. All in all we had access to over 11,000 inmates.
We had to leave our host hotel early in the morning before daylight and drive hundreds of miles in literally every direction. It was freezing cold and the teammates had to stand in line in the cold in order for everyone to be carefully searched. At lunch the team dined with the inmates and was served prison food – Yum!
HA, HA, HA
The results: 2,827 inmates made decisions to follow Christ! That is two thousand eight hundred and twenty seven lives whom Jesus loves with all of His heart being added to His kingdom. Someone from Bill Glass wrote, “It was an amazing weekend! Halleluiah!”
I got home after midnight Saturday night and was completely exhausted, but completely exhilarated. I was a platform speaker and was shuttled from prison to prison along with another speaker by a volunteer driver named Christina. The plan for Saturday afternoon was to be that after I spoke at the last prison for the day she was going to shuttle me to the airport where I hoped to make my flight. It was going to be very tight and I hoped to make it because my connection in Atlanta would be the last flight out for the day and I wanted to get home in time to go to church on Sunday morning and not spend the night in Atlanta at a raunchy motel.
As we shuttled between prisons we stopped to eat along the way and Christina got a call. Her mother was being taken to the hospital with shortness of breath. We told her to just drop us off at the prison and go to her mother and we would call someone at transportation headquarters to take us to the airport after this last event.
She told us that her mother was 82 years old and her brother was taking her to the emergency room. She said there is nothing I can do for her now that isn’t already being done. She is a Christian and if she dies then I’ll see her in heaven. We are doing important work here and I’m going to see it through to the end.
Hmmm . . . Here is a woman who had taken two days off work and was driving her personal car around at her own expense and now her mother was being taken to ER for what could be a life threatening situation and yet her desire to serve God in this manner was number one in her life.
We said a prayer for her mother and headed to the prison. Once inside I noticed her talking to and encouraging numerous inmates and she was smiling the entire time we were behind the walls. When we finished and exited she called to check on her mom. Praise God her condition turned out to be an infection of some sort and was not life threatening and from all indications it appeared that she would be fine. We proceeded to the airport and made it in plenty of time.
I hope your weekend was as fulfilling as ours . . . Imagine how God must have viewed Christina’s attitude followed by her actions. I think He still has a big wide smile on His face for what Christina did for Him.
Matthew 25:39
. . . I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when
did we see You in prison, and come to You?’ The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly
I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them,
you did it to Me.’ . . .
Would you like to visit Jesus in prison? December 4–6 there will be an event in Jacksonville FL and if you live in another area we have them all over the country. You can sign-up and volunteer at http://www.billglass.org/
