This week seemed to pass by quite rapidly and Friday is already upon us. What do you think about when you approach the weekend? Many think about playing golf, the return of football season, kids and grandkids and their soccer games, baseball, football, fishing, and so on.
At Honey Lake our team is frantically preparing for hunting season. We are less than a month away from the beginning of quail and dove season. That is hard to believe; it seems too hot and too early to think about hunting, but time marches on.
I like the weekends mostly because of Sundays. I can remember when Sunday’s were a time to recover from a wicked hangover, but these days Sundays are a very special time for me; they are a time to get together with friends and have some fun worshiping Jesus and learning more about the Lord together.
Now if that sounds dorky to you, then I guess I’m a dork, because I can honestly say that one of the things I enjoy most in life is going to church. It is a special time that provides me with joy that cannot be derived from the pleasures of the world. I love to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit at church and nothing I’ve tried in life compares, (and I’ve tried just about everything at one time or the other).
Since becoming a Christian so many years ago I’ve strived to emulate Jesus. I’ve done a terrible job at it for the most part and have made mistakes too innumerable to recount, but every time I get knocked down I keep getting back up and I am making progress.
I’ve noticed four important things that Jesus did while walking this earth. He preached the Gospel; he discipled his followers; He often visited the temple and taught there; and He helped those in need. The Jesus Alliance modeled much of its mission statement around these guiding principles when setting its priorities.
I think most folks would agree that Jesus came to earth to teach us how to live our lives in such a manner that we get the absolute most out of it. He knew that our lives would be full of trouble, and He wanted to make it easier to get through all of the thorns and thistles of this nasty world and find our peace in Him forever.
Judging by how He prioritized His life, is your life where it needs to be?
- Do you witness to anyone?
- Do you disciple anyone?
- Do you regularly attend church and maybe teach a Sunday school class?
- Do you help the poor, the sick, and the downtrodden?
Are these number one priorities – or 901 priorities?
If you aren’t following the example Jesus set for us, whose example are you following?

Have a great weekend and go to Honey Lake Church, (or somewhere), this weekend. Also be sure and mark your calendars for Sunday September 14th; we will have one of the Christian country music industry’s most award winning performers, (Clifton Jansky), visiting at Honey Lake for our Worldwide Ministry special second Sunday service. You won’t want to miss this one. He not only can sing and play the guitar with the best of them, but he has a redemptive story that will thrill your soul.
John 16:33
Jesus said, “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
