I wake up in a good mood every day. Today I’m optimistic and ready to get stuff done. I sometimes begin to lose the momentum of my sunny disposition soon after my work day begins and I enter into what I refer to as the “Knucklehead Zone”.
You’ve heard of the Twilight Zone, well the Knucklehead Zone is even more eerie. In this zone nothing goes as planned and nothing works. I find that some of my employees reside almost continually in this zone and it would be easier to try and herd cats in single file through an empty gymnasium than to efficiently manage them.
Sometimes I enter into what I refer to as the “Rat-Hole Zone”. Here I encounter those greedy, stealing, cheats, and liars who are miserable themselves and want to make everyone else just like them. These mangy scums can put me in a foul mood quick.
If the Knucklehead Zone or the Rat-Hole Zone don’t destroy my good mood then the “One-eyed God Zone” kicks in. Watching an hour of the news every day on a big screen television is equivalent to worshipping a one-eyed God and is the real slow killer in this country and not high blood pressure. The commentators are not happy unless you are unhappy, (just like them). The world is becoming more negative and the contagion of gloom and doom vomited by them via this one eyed God and it’s infection of ordinary people in massive numbers is rapidly surpassing an epidemic and rising to pandemic proportions.
I’m committed to not being rained out by these zones, (perhaps a rain delay here or there), but no washouts. The Bible states in Philippians 4 that we should: “Rejoice in the Lord always – Again I will say rejoice! Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”.
God wants us to remain in His “Peace and Tranquility Zone”.
So as we head out into this brand new day that God has set before us, we might encounter knuckleheads, mangy rats, and hear and see terrible things on the one-eyed God, but we should rejoice and not be anxious. We should pray in supplication, (humble sincere appeal to God to grant our request) and do so in a spirit of thanksgiving.
Huh?
Thanksgiving for knuckleheads, rats, and mayhem? No silly, thanksgiving that Jesus Christ will deliver us and allow us to rest in His Peace and Tranquility Zone today! In Isaiah 26 it states: “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.”
The key word in this verse is steadfast. What does that mean? It means we should be unwavering, unfaltering, resolute, persistent, committed, dedicated, unswerving and firm in our trust in the Lord and if we do so He will keep us in “perfect peace”.
I was looking through my desk over the weekend and I came across a little desk sign an employee friend of mine had made and given me way back when I started my first company. It reads:
Bob Williamson – Dragon slayer
He gave it to me because I don’t quit. Adversity comes knocking at my door and I smash it it right back in the mouth as hard as I can. I’m going out today and if necessary fight and slay some dragons, swim a river, climb a mountain, traverse a jungle, swat some mosquitos, but by nighfall I intend to sit atop the mountain that I will climb today and have a glass of iced tea in perfect peace. I will remain steadfast and find my peace today in spite of satan and all of his minions.
I trust in my mighty God and His promise of peace for me. How about you?
Phil. 4:19
And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
