My wife gets perturbed to no end because I record football games ahead of time and then prior to watching them I will look on the Internet to see if the team that I wanted to win actually won or lost. If they won I will watch the game. If they lost I will delete it without watching it.
She tells me that knowing the outcome takes all of the fun out of watching the game. I tell her that it’s not any “fun” to me to watch my team lose. Fun to me is watching my team win and the larger the margin they win by the more fun it is. Losing causes me angst and consternation, neither of which I care to endure; therefore I don’t put myself through it.
Personally I think it’s pretty cool to pre-record football games. It gives us a small window into one of God’s Omni attributes: Omnipotence, Omnipresence and Omniscience.
Omnipotence means that God possesses all power, and that it’s unlimited. What is impossible for man is possible for God (Matthew 19:26). Omnipresent means God is ever present, He fills heaven and earth and no-one can hide from Him. There are no secret places where He is excluded (Jeremiah 23:23-24).
Omniscience means that God knows every possible item of knowledge concerning everything that exists or could have existed anywhere in the universe at any time in the past or that may exist in ages yet to come. (Matthew 10:29-30). There are numerous prophetic predictions in Scripture that readily demonstrate that God knows the future and of course Jesus told all of His disciples details of His impending crucifixion ahead of time.
Watching a football game and already knowing the outcome gives me a small inkling of God’s omniscient attributes. When things go bad in a televised football game, those who do not already know the outcome will be screaming, crying, and wailing to no end. But me, I will be happily munching on my popcorn, nonchalantly swigging my Coke, and belching my disgust at those around me and their lack of faith in my team. I don’t get worried at all when my team fumbles the ball, or a receiver drops a pass in the end zone because I know everything will eventually turn out all right and we will win the game.
The Bible tells us that for those of us who put our faith in Jesus Christ and ask Him to become our Savior that things are going to turn out just fine. We don’t need a DVR and we don’t need TiVo to know the outcome of the game of life; we merely need to read the Bible. The Bible states that God’s children who have accepted Christ as their Savior will spend eternity in glorious splendor in heaven with Jesus Christ.
Oh how it must disgust God to stand beside us and watch us worry and wring our hands during the ups and downs of the game of life in this fallen world. I don’t think God drinks Coke and He would never be so crude or rude as to belch His disgust at us, but don’t you just know it has to bother him when we demonstrate such a lack of faith in His word and promises. It’s no small wonder that Jesus said many times that it is a sin to worry.
Okay – You already know the outcome, now stop worrying already!
Matt. 28:20
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
No need to fret
