When I was in high school a good friend of mine landed a date with one of the most beautiful girls I’d ever seen. She had beautiful blue eyes, an infectious smile, long blonde hair, and was shaped like an hour glass. She was smart and witty and had a great personality, and if all of that was not enough, her father owned a bank.
Wow!
We double-dated and went to a prom and she was ravishing in her strapless gown. My friend had been drinking gin and a sickening punch mix. Gin made me mean and besides I didn’t like the taste and therefore I would not partake of it with him. The drop dead gorgeous gal didn’t drink any either; however my date seemed to like it and she and my buddy drank more than their fair share before we ever arrived at the prom.
Towards the end of the very first dance my buddy was slow dancing with his gorgeous date and proceeded to throw-up down her back. Her beautiful tan shoulders and white gown were suddenly stained a sickly looking pink punch color. I’m thinking how could a guy mess up an opportunity like this? Of course we had to leave because she was a mess. On the way home he reached down and pulled off one of her shoes and puked into it. (This was definitely not her Cinderella storybook night.)
I’m driving them home with my head out of the window because the smell was making me sick. My date had been drinking the same mess and suddenly got the urge to vomit too. She tried to make it go out the window, but in her drunken stupor didn’t realize the window had not been rolled down and she splayed it all over it.
Arghhh!
Needless to say my buddy lost out and this gal never spoke to him again. For that matter she never spoke to me again either and I was just an innocent bystander. I did not ever date the girl I was with again either. Somehow cleaning up her regurgitated chunks and vomit punch stain from my car and smelling it for a month thereafter diminished her appeal to me.
Within a year my friend ended up getting killed in a car wreck and as usual was drunk. I often wonder what might have been if he would have just said no
Proverbs 23:29
Who has woe?
Who has sorrow?
Who has contentions?
Who has complaints?
Who has wounds without cause?
Who has redness of eyes?
Those who linger long at the
wine
At the last it bites like a
serpent.
