I am often asked about religious denominations and which one I prefer. I cannot endorse one over another because they vary so much. I have attended more Baptist churches than most, but I have attended some that I thought were deplorable. All things being equal all Baptist churches are not the same, nor or Methodist or any others. I decide on which fits best for me by comparing what comes out of the pulpit to what comes out of the Bible. If what they preach is inconsistent to what comes out of the Bible or has been misconstrued according to my own understanding and they do not adhere strictly to biblical principles then I find another church.
Admittedly if you have never read or studied the Bible it would be difficult to find a church using my criteria. In those cases perhaps you should just really pray that God will lead you to find the right church and you will know it when you find it by the peace that surrounds you when you find the right one.
Yesterday I was lambasted by some lady about yesterday’s WFTD and my comments about the direction the Democrats are taking our country and she told me she was cancelling her subscription. She railed about Republicans not caring about the “have-nots” and catering to business and how nice the Democrats are for caring about them and fighting big business.
Hmmmm I look at political affiliations like I do denominations. You have to “look under the hood” and “kick a few tires” prior to committing. I used to be a Republican but changed to an Independent. I like what many in the Tea Party are saying, I like some of what I have heard from a few Libertarians, I like many Republicans, but there are few Democrats that I could support, in fact I really don’t know of any right at the moment.
As for her comments about entitlements so generously provided by the Democrats to practically anyone with their hand stretched out, I told this lady that the Bible unequivocally states that we are to work or NOT EAT. God abhors laziness and much is written about it in the Old and the New Testament. Jesus and the Apostles worked and I believe did so as an example for us.
Welfare as defined in the Bible is for widows and those with infirmities who cannot provide for themselves. I believe they should be provided for by the church; however that is perhaps idyllic and I would not mind tax dollars being spent in that direction, but there I draw the line.
I know what it is like to be broke, homeless and hungry. I started out penniless and homeless and my first job was cleaning mortar off bricks for $15 per week. When I could afford a boarding house for $15 per week I was no longer homeless. The government never gave me housing or food stamps or anything. I worked hard and smart and over the next forty years succeeded financially.
Now the Democratic leadership in congress and the White House wants to take away what I have worked for all those decades and “spread it around a little” to all those who sat on their cans and sneered at jobs like cleaning bricks. People like me who have worked hard and taken risks to start companies that ultimately have provided jobs for thousands of people are not the problem in this country. The problem is our country has too many people in it who think the world owes them a living paid for by the rest of us. Their belief in that regard is not biblical and thus will not work. Read your Scripture and see if it does not verify what I say.
Bahhh I’m tired of railing. If anyone wants to unsubscribe over my viewpoints on this subject, please do so, but don’t bother yelling at me about it; you won’t change my mind. WFTD is written to help me and others deal with everyday real life issues including on occasion political issues. I always use Scripture as I understand it to guide us through the various questions that I find interesting. As disgusting as political discussions are, they sometimes fit into that category and I will continue to write about any subject for which I feel led

“If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat”
