I think I will fail

Recently I instructed one of our employees to call a vendor and ask them for a better price. I was going to increase the quantity of the items purchased and felt the larger order should warrant a better price.

I asked the employee if they thought they could succeed with this task and the answer was, “I don’t think so”. Before this person could explain why they felt they could not succeed, I stopped them mid-sentence. I instructed them to give the task to another employee stating, “If you don’t think you can succeed, you are most certainly going to prove yourself right”.

I am asked to speak all over the country about overcoming tremendous odds and thousands of people want to know how I did it. In fact Inc. Magazine wrote an article about me entitled, “How I did it”. Aside from having a personal relationship with God, the most important thing in winning is to have a winning, “can-do”, attitude. My evaluation criteria for employees has always centered on three components, attitude, work ethic, and accomplishments. By far the most important is maintaining a winning attitude. If you don’t think you can win, you will likely find that you cannot.

Last night Scott Brown pulled off the upset of the century by handily winning the senate seat occupied for fifty some odd years by the late Ted Kennedy. How did he do it? He had a confident air about him, demonstrated a solid work ethic by campaigning hard, and he worked smart and avoided the temptation of going negative and restricted his campaign to the issues. Everyone predicted that he would lose and some questioned why he even ran. It was unthinkable that a Republican could win in such a liberal state.

Scott proved them all wrong by winning by a landslide. Today our country has a better chance than yesterday at defeating the myriad of disastrous mistakes made by an ultra liberal out of control president and congress because Scott Brown refused to believe his detractors.

This should be a lesson for all of us. We can turn this country back towards the center and elect those who will fight big government’s excessive deficit spending on entitlement programs that is ruining any chance for our children and grandchildren to have much of a life, using taxpayer dollars to pay for abortion, ripping us off with insane cap and trade taxes, squandering money on pitiful educators in an education system ruined by unions, and other vitally important issues. It begins with believing that with God’s help we can succeed.

Make no mistake about it we must first believe and then go to work. As for me I proudly admit that off and on throughout the day yesterday I prayed for Scott Brown to win, and I also did my part by contributing to his campaign. We cannot stand by and idly ask God to do everything. As with most things we must do our part too. Did you pray for Scott Brown yesterday? Did you contribute to his campaign? If the answer is no, then there is always the next battle that needs all of our help.

Phil. 4:13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
