I have been working feverishly on my new book and have not taken the time to crank out Words for the Day in the past few days. Sorry about that but I do take my book goal seriously and I hope all of you are working feverishly towards finishing up your goals from last year and hopefully setting new ones for 2010.
My major spiritual goal for 2009 was to finish the rough draft of my new book by the end of the year and it will be pushing it to achieve it. I write best in the mornings when I am fresh, and that clashes with the time I usually write WFTD. By the time I work on my book for hours, and then go deer hunting and manage my plantation and various construction projects I am too tired to continue and write WFTD. A sign of getting old???
I also am spending an enormous amount of time right now just thinking about all that I want to accomplish next year. This is not boring or tedious to me, but fun. I like to dream up worthwhile projects and envision where I will be this time next year, (Lord willing). I can tell you that when I do ultimately achieve those goals, it is very rewarding and satisfying to look back and remember when it was just an “idea”.
I think everyone should spend some time thinking about the future and setting goals IN WRITING. I take my goals seriously and I hope everyone is working towards finishing up theirs from last year and setting new ones for 2010. I set spiritual, personal, and career goals and spiritual is the highest priority.
I have a whole raft of ideas for next year. I hope to improve the WFTD website, finish and promote my book, make tremendous progress on my Christian Youth center, find a new church home near my North Florida home, and spend several months speaking to various groups about the Lord.
Where do you want to be spiritually one year from now? Maybe you could commit to reading the book of Romans and becoming an expert on that book and in fact teach a Sunday school class on it. If you have never read the entire Bible, what better time than 2010 to read it all of the way through? Maybe you know someone or several people that you can commit to winning over to the Lord in 2010.
Don’t be afraid to aim high with your goals. Your mind is a wonderful thing and you are capable of achieving lofty goals especially if you keep in mind my favorite verse in the Bible, (see below), and with His help launch your new ideas. It starts with faith and when combined with your hard work you can be assured that if your goal is within God’s will for your life, that God will deliver on His promise and you will succeed wildly.
My goal for this week is to catch several striped marlin in Cabo San Lucas. I hope they have Internet service down there. If so, I will keep you posted on my progress.
