I get up every morning long before daylight and today was no exception. Mine is the only house on a big lake located far out in the country miles from the nearest neighbor. There are no city lights, (or lights of any kind at that time of the morning). When I walk outside, if it is clear, I can see a zillion stars twinkling down at me. I can hear frogs talking among themselves around the lake and whippoorwills calling to each other. I smile as I think about God and His creation and often will stand there and stare up at the sky for some time looking and listening and admiring His handiwork. This puts me in a great mood.

I am located about a half of a mile back in the woods and when I make the short drive from the lake-house to my plantation office, more often than not I will see a deer or two scampering out of my pickup truck’s headlights before I get to the gate that leads to my plantation office. By now I am in an even better mood and a smile is firmly fixated on my face.

Then comes the consternation, I must unlock the gate which means I have to get out in poor lighting from my headlights and dial up the combination for the combination lock on the gate. The numbers on the lock are worn and my eyesight is not good up close anymore and even with glasses it is difficult beyond words to open this lock. Generally I am sputtering and cussing and in a state of angst by the time it finally, mercifully, yields and pops open.

This morning was no exception and I was still stewing and muttering to myself as I came into my office to make coffee. When it finished brewing I poured a cup and added cream and sweetener and when I went to stir it up, there were no spoons. I had to stir it with my finger and burned it in the process.

ARGHHHH! Now I am in a rage and I am sitting down to write Words for the Day. Hmmm God gives us stormy weather and serene calm, I should just pray about it, calmly accept it, and keep on smiling…

No! Heck no! I’m not accepting this! I’m going to get that lock changed TODAY whereby I can open it with a key. And trust me, someone BETTER get some spoons in here today whereby I can stir my coffee! And I don’t mean maybe!

Tomorrow after I have implemented change I will come in here smiling and serene and write a peaceful WFTD.

The moral of today’s story is that we can affect our circumstance without having to bother God. I don’t need to pray about this. I need to fix the problem with the facilities that He has already provided to me, namely a brain and cognitive ability.

If you have problems in your life, don’t endure or sit around waiting for God to resolve them for you while you lounge around sulking or stewing. Get off the couch, dry your eyes, and figure out how to remove the obstacles from your life and enjoy! Too often we are lazy and just endure our circumstance. If we will diligently work and pursue removing the obstacles we can end up with the prize.

Proverbs 13:4
The soul of a lazy man desires
And has nothing;
But the diligent
shall be made rich.
