Today many of my friends refer to Words for the Day as my “blog”. Hmmm. I have never liked that word. It sounds sick to me. Ten years ago when I began writing it I had never heard that expression. Blog is a contraction of the words web log. I like to think of WFTD as a daily inspirational site based upon the Bible and not a web log. I suppose my definition is a little wordy and blog is easier. Whatever

Someone asked me not long ago if I get tired of writing Words for the Day every day. Ten years is a long time and the answer is yes. Sometimes it is inconvenient, especially when I am extremely busy, traveling, on vacation, sick, exhausted, have a horrible Internet connection, or if I’m in a bad mood; however I receive letters on a daily basis from those who have related to that day’s entry and are encouraged by how God’s word relates to their problem too. Those letters make it all worthwhile to me. I know that God used me to offer those particular words, that particular day to help encourage that person and I appreciate the opportunity to help out and serve the Lord.

I began writing WFTD very early one morning when I was scanning and searching the Bible for the answer to a problem that I was having in my life. It occurred to me that others within my company might experience a similar problem in their life and perhaps the answer and encouragement provided to me by God via my Bible study and research would apply and help them as well. I also felt that my intense research towards addressing the many difficult “why?” questions might prove interesting to others too. I decided to design write a summary of what I discovered and make it available to any of my employees that desired it via a website. Later friends from all over the world found out about the site and subscribed to these daily entries too.

Thousands of entries later I find myself still sharing the tragedies and triumphs of my life and trying to make sense of it all and discern God’s plan for my life by using the Bible as my guide. I told a friend last night that I view the Bible as accomplishing two things. First and foremost it leads us to the conviction that we are sinners and we need the sacrifice of Jesus Christ dying on the cross as payment for our sins in order to be reconciled with God. Second the Bible guides us to being capable of knowing peace and joy on a daily basis while living as fallen creatures in a fallen world. Although we will not fully enjoy paradise until we join the Lord in heaven, we can enjoy this life in this evil world while still in the flesh provided we follow the guidelines and laws in God’s Holy Word.

After salvation think of the Bible as a owner’s manual and follow the recommendations for a joyous peaceful life. God loves us and wants us to succeed and has given us His Bible to tell us how to do it. And with this, today’s faithful entry, I sign off for today’s Ughhh! Blog

Psalm37:27
Depart from evil, and do
good;
And dwell forevermore.
For the Lord loves justice,
And does not forsake His
saints;
They are preserved forever
