I have organized a Bass fishing tournament for Honey Lake and when I return from my vacation in Maui in three weeks we will conduct it. As tournament director I have thought out every minute detail and carefully organized it. I am rather proud of all that I have accomplished in such a short period of time and without sounding too arrogant I must say that it is an extremely well thought out tournament.
I named it the “1st Annual Honey Lake Studs and Duds’ Bass Fishing tournament”. When I ran the concept of the name by my wife, oddly she did not think too much of it. I asked her if she disliked it because it was too long or what and she just gave me a disgusted look and without further comment went back to reading her book.
Each competing team will have two members. The winning team, (the Studs), must catch the most poundage of fish. Additionally a special individual award will be given to the fisherman who catches the largest fish. They will receive the “Big Kahuna” trophy for winning.
The winning team for the most poundage will receive hats that are designated, “Stud”. The losers, or “Duds”, will have pink hats that say, “Dud” on them complete with matching pink aprons that say, “I am a Loser”. It will be a requirement for the duds to serve pizza and coke to the winners while donning their hats and aprons. They must also wear their pink dud hats to work for the entire week following the tournament.
I thought that was a particularly nice touch and asked my wife for comment. She rolled her eyes at me and did even not bother to answer. (I have had it with her insolence and for the record that ended any chance of her being selected to be on my personal cheerleading team for the tournament.)
I have been rather obnoxious to everyone participating in the tournament and have been making predictions that I would not only win the “Big Kahuna” trophy, but no doubt would be one of the “Studs” for the poundage award. I was incredulous that one of the other contestants told me that he actually thought he had a chance in fishing against me and I derisively laughed at him.
When initially developing the tournament it did not occur to me that I might possibly actually lose. Hmmm I do not relish the thought of donning a pink loser hat and dud apron.
As I searched for peace this morning I turned to the verse listed below. Not what I wanted to hear
Proverbs 29:23
A man’s pride will bring him
low,
But the humble in spirit will
retain honor.
Too much talk?
