I have a friend who rarely smiles and never has anything positive to say. Mention any project and he will give you ten reasons NOT to even attempt it. Mention the government or anything about the country and get settled in for a dissertation of negativity that will make you want to go out and hang yourself. He dislikes his job, his station in life, his family life, the government, most likely me and every other person he knows, and maybe even himself.

Hmmm. I think it grieves the Lord to listen to all that junk. The Bible makes it clear that we should take all things in stride without complaint or dispute. God is perfect and so are His laws. Frankly that level of compliance is the perfection route and is so very difficult to attain, that few reach it. In reality few of us ever get anywhere close to achieving it. I guess we just like to gripe about everything.

Some fare better than others. A friend of mine who has gone on to be with the Lord was the best example of having a complaint-free great smiling positive attitude as anyone whom I have ever personally known. He always had a radiant smile on his face and a super positive “chipper” attitude that just lit up a room, (even later when he suffered through chemo therapy).

I asked him one time how he was able to stay so positive. His solution was when he looked in the mirror in the morning to brush his teeth, he stated out loud to himself, “You can either be negative today or positive, I am going to choose to stay positive today”, and he did. Those of you who brush your teeth every morning should try this. Those who do not, don’t worry about it, because no one wants to be around you anyway.

The Lord tells us that a big part of staying positive is trusting in the Lord. If you really trust in the Lord you should rejoice and the Bible states that you should actually SHOUT for joy.

Do you feel like rejoicing and shouting for joy this morning? Huh? I cannot hear you

Quit being so grumped up and get a cup of coffee going and get on with God’s program. As with all axioms in the Bible, this will make you “be all you can be”.

Psalm 32:10
But he who trusts in the Lord,
mercy shall surround him.
Be glad in the Lord and rejoice,
you righteous; and shout for joy,
All you upright in heart.
