Renewing of minds

I was pleasantly surprised to see that for the first time in years a Gallup poll indicates that now a majority of the people in the United States refer to themselves as proponents of “right to life” versus “free choice”. This puts our President at odds with a majority of the people in America as he tries his utmost to fill positions in his administration and the benches with “freedom of choice” people.

I was thinking about this poll today and wondering why so many people have changed their minds. Hmmm.

Perhaps it is the tremendous advancement in ultra sound technology that allows us to take a peek inside the womb. A baby’s tiny features can now easily be discerned utilizing today’s technology. Little feet, fingers, eyes, ears, nose, etc. can all be observed, but the most fascinating thing is to see a little baby sucking its thumb, yawning and stretching, kicking, rolling around, or otherwise behaving like, well, a baby.

Free choice advocates want to refer to these unborn babies as fetuses, but using today’s technology to observe an unborn child comfortably resting in its mother’s womb and in every way acting like a baby negates such notions. It is not just a mass of tissue coldly referred to as a fetus. It is a little innocent child in there.

So in a major speech about the subject at an important Catholic University, Notre Dame, (of all places), our President stated that this “debate” will never end, but we should be tolerant of each other’s views.

Excuse me? I sincerely hope that he is wrong about the debate never ending as he is about so many other things. Killing an innocent unborn child should not be a mother’s right to “choose” anymore than if they “choose” to kill the child after it is born. Sorry Mr. President but I could never be tolerant of someone’s views that taking the life of an innocent child is the right thing to do even if the pregnancy is inconvenient for the mom or perhaps an embarrassment.

My hope and prayer is that the current trend of opposition will continue to swell as more and more people realize the mistake that has been made in the years past in this country and that the slaughter will soon subside. So many people in this country so badly want children and wait for years and spend all of the money that they can save up trying to adopt. Why not just give the child to someone who will raise it and love and cherish it.

Life cannot be created in a test tube. It is a gift from God. I wish the President and others would read the verse below and ask God to cleanse and renew them…

Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart O
God,
And renew a steadfast spirit
within me.
Do not cast me away from
Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy
Spirit from me.
