A friend of mine got invited to take Jimmy Buffet fishing this Sunday at a local pond near Tallahassee. Another friend got invited to a humdinger of a party hosted by another significantly wealthy and famous person this Sunday down here in the Keys, (I cannot reveal his name). And yet another friend is going to the Masters Golf Tournament.
At least in the southeastern neck of the woods, azaleas are blooming and so are dogwoods. Trees are turning green and the weather is predicted to be peachy. In the Keys fishing is at its maximum best. Spring break is in full swing for vacationers all over the country. Sounds like lots of fun shaping up for this day?
Whoa! This Sunday commemorates the most significant event that the entire world has known or ever will know. It commemorates the holiest day of the year, Easter Sunday, the day Jesus Christ was resurrected and death was defeated. It provides the foundation for all hope upon which we Christian’s base our faith. If Christ had not been resurrected, all would be lost, but praise God He was and today sits at the right hand of God awaiting us to join Him and celebrate his triumph together. He is alive!
Churches everywhere will be conducting daylight and traditional services. Everyone has an opportunity to attend. Don’t let distractions rob you of the joy that you can know by going to church and worshipping on this most special day. Be you a “parrot-head”, groupie, golf fanatic, grill-master for the old barbeque, fisherman, turkey hunter, or TV slob, at least go to church for the daylight services this very special Sunday.
As for me I am going fishing tomorrow to go ahead and get it out of my system, (hence the reason for the early post for tomorrow’s WFTD). Sunday I plan to attend church and afterwards relax with my wife and perhaps some friends and grill out some hamburgers. Jesus will be on my mind all day long. I will watch the “Passion of the Christ” DVD later that evening. I intend to devote the entire day to Jesus Christ and my family and friends. This is not some obligation that I detest. This will be a day of great fun for me and I cannot wait to hear our choir Sunday (and even our preacher).
I will not be in Margaritaville, although I might listen to the song as I lounge around my pool
1 Cor. 1:18
For the message of the cross is
foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being
saved, it is the power of God.
Special!
