I have the utmost respect for the Whitetail buck. It is smart, wild, beautiful, graceful, and a worthy adversary and hunting them is my most favorite passion in the world. Forget about Bambi and all of the talking deer nonsense all you “bunny huggers” and please do not send me any of those tear jerker letters; deer are not human beings. God gave us dominion over the animal kingdom and as responsible stewards we must intelligently harvest the deer crop just like any other crop to prevent over-population. Natural predators are long gone and mankind must humanely control the population now via hunting. If this is not done, they will die a slow agonizing death due to starvation and disease and it is a far more cruel way to complete their life cycle than succumbing to a well placed shot from a high powered firearm.
Mature trophy Whitetails do not have many weaknesses. They have a very keen sense of smell, excellent hearing that comes from their huge ears that can point virtually in any direction and detect barely audible sounds, eyesight that can discern the slightest movement, coloration that makes them blend in with the landscape, powerful legs that they can use to instantly bound away from the slightest danger. They are smart beyond belief, are almost entirely nocturnal, and use cover that is so thick that it makes one wonder how they can traverse through it with their wide antlers. One might legitimately ask how it is possible to ever take one of these magnificent elusive trophies. The answer is that they do have one weakness.
Whitetail bucks love the girls. There is a time of the year when mature Whitetail bucks chase does with reckless abandon; it is called the rut. They are no longer nocturnal and spend nearly 60 straight days looking for does to breed. It is a violent time where mature bucks who just months earlier browsed together and laid around chewing their cuds together will viciously fight each other often to their deaths, using their antlers to fatally wound their opponent for the right to breed. It has been documented that during this period of time that they do not eat anything for as much as thirty days in their relentless pursuit of the ladies. It is the only time of the year that a truly trophy Whitetail can be taken in areas even with moderate hunting pressure, but even then they are wary and difficult to take.
I saw a whitetail rump and a whitetail deer head that a taxidermist had mounted on a single plaque and he had placed a sign beside it that read, “Don’t lose your head over a little tail”. There has been many a good whitetail buck that would have otherwise not ever been seen had it not been for a sexual drive that goes into overdrive. I wonder if satan has a trophy room somewhere in Hell where he has collected the souls of overly hormonal persons who succumbed to the lust phenomenon as well. Temptation can be a powerful force; don’t allow it to ruin your day today
Proverbs 5:18
May your fountain be blessed,
and may you rejoice in the wife of your
youth.
A loving doe, a graceful deer
May her breasts satisfy you always,
may you ever be captivated by her love.
Why be captivated, my son, by an
adulteress?
Why embrace the bosom of another
man’s wife?
For a man’s ways are in full view of the
Lord,
and He examines all his paths.
The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him;
the cords of his sin hold him fast.
He will die for lack of discipline,
led astray by his own great folly.
Hang on o your head
