Lately our company has been beset by some serious customer service issues. It is upsetting and draining to deal with them. I was talking to one of my sons about this late yesterday evening and recapping some of the day’s events and comparing notes and he told me that he too was exhausted and even had a splitting headache after dealing with these issues all day yesterday. It was just one of the days that make life miserable.
I have always felt that providing outstanding customer service is one of the “key” and necessary ingredients to building a successful business. It is very disheartening to see employees treat our customers poorly and jeopardize everything that we have worked so hard to achieve. Like most things in life providing good customer service is easy if all of our people would just treat others as they would like to be treated. I have often told people to treat customers like they would treat the person that they most admire and love, be it “themselves”, a mother, spouse, best friend, or whomever. This is a serving type spirit and not a “being” served type spirit. Unfortunately some of them just do not seem to get it, and in some cases seem to treat customers as if they were enemies instead. It is baffling and perplexing to me.
I was thinking about this problem today and realized that all of the problems of life could be resolved if everyone utilized this “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you Serve and forget being served” philosophy. If humanity could just adhere to that one principle laid down by Jesus Christ, there would be no wars, lying, stealing, etc. and our problems would be solved.
Alas the “serving” mentality is not to be until the “second coming” of Christ, unless something radically changes the world. Until then I suppose we need to take two aspirin and resolve ourselves to not let it grind us down
Mark 10:45
For even the Son of Man did
not come to be served, but to serve,
and to give His life a ransom for
many.
Serving spirit is missing
