The Bible describes those who do not believe in God as fools. Psalms 14:1: The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God”. According to the Bible, eventually all such fools, even the most hardened, toughest atheist the world has ever known, will bow down and acknowledge God for who He is. Romans 13:11 “For it is written: As I live says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God”.

I have heard the statement from non-believers, ” Well if there is a Hell and I end up going there, at least I will have plenty of company”. It is unfortunate, but at long last they are absolutely right about something, the Bible clearly predicts that this will happen and we should not be surprised by it. Matthew 7:13 tells us: “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Unfortunately many more people will end up eternally separated from the God of light, grace and mercy than will be reconciled to Him. What does eternal separation from God mean? The absence of light, grace and mercy comes to my mind. If there is no light, there can only be darkness. If there is no grace, there can only be condemnation, if there is no mercy, there can only be everlasting punishment. I do not know about you, but eternal separation from God, even if it means knowing that your drinking buddies will be separated too, does little for me.

Lest you think that God will grade on a curve, we all must understand that God states that there is no safety in numbers. Actually it is quite simple, either the blood of Jesus will cover our sins or not. If it does not, we will be separated from God forever. The Bible provides us with some sobering examples of God’s Holy judgment when dealing with large numbers of those who would disobey His commands. 2 Peter 2:4 “For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to Hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, “one” of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly; and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those afterward who would live ungodly; and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds) – then the Lord knows how to deliver the Godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust for the day of judgment…” God has provided us with these examples of righteous judgment to 1/3 of the angels of heaven, all but 8 people in the world prior to the flood, and all but one family in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Large, unbelieving masses of people were destroyed. There is no safety or comfort in numbers.

Unlike lemmings rushing to their deaths in the sea, oblivious to their eminent disaster, we have a choice. We have been condemned by our own sin, and a Holy and just God cannot tolerate sin; however the Bible clearly tells us of God’s love for us and the way that He has provided for us to escape condemnation and be saved. There is only one way, and that is the narrow way of Jesus. The Bible tells us that His blood will cover our sin and reconcile us with God forever. The Bible is truth, listen to it and, “The truth shall set you free”..

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that
He gave his only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in him should not
perish, but have everlasting life.
For God did not send His Son
into the world to condemn the world
but that the world through Him
might be saved.
