“Go ahead and sleep in, don’t work out today, you have earned it, go ahead and catch up on a little sleep”. “Go ahead and have that piece of pie, it is the holiday season and you can diet later”. “Come on and loosen up a little, have a drink, or maybe two, everyone is doing it”. “No-one will ever find out, why not.”
Have you ever heard that little voice whispering in your ear? Did you ever wonder whose voice it is?
Ask yourself who wants to defeat us every day. Is it the Lord? Of course not, it comes from none other than satan and his fallen angels. They have fallen from God’s grace and will never be restored to their former glory or gain access to heaven. The Bible states that Lucifer fell from heaven like a falling star. Once he was the most beautiful and powerful angel and now he is fallen and is ‘despised by all creation’ and will spend eternity suffering in Hell and lonely darkness separated forever from God’s glorious presence and his former glory. It is a mystery as to why God allows him to rule the earth “for a time”, and grants him the power that he enjoys for this “age”. Nonetheless we should be cognizant of it and draw close to God to avoid falling for his ingenious and inviting deceit as our ancestor Eve and then Adam did.
The Bible states that he goes about like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. It states that he has dark spiritual powers that we do not possess and without the protection of Jesus we are no match for him. His heart is bent upon destruction. He is the father of all lies and a murderer. He would like nothing better than to defeat you and me in everything that we attempt. He is familiar with our weaknesses and exploits them at every opportunity. One third of all of the angels in heaven fell with satan when they rebelled against God. The angels are deemed to be innumerable so one can imagine what a massive, formidable and powerful dark army satan has amassed against all of humanity.
Why does he rage against us? I believe much of it is due to God’s tremendous love for us. He is jealous of God and of man and our love for each other is something that he wants to destroy. He wants to be as God and wants to be worshipped. He is evil beyond any of our imaginations. He is known as the destroyer’ and that name is fitting as he is hell bent upon destroying your life and mine.
As you plan your goals for the upcoming year, be advised that satan will try to defeat you at every turn, be it losing a few pounds, staying on that exercise program, staying faithful to your spouse, avoiding watching that filthy trashy movie, or obtaining that managerial position that you desire so much. Stay focused on God, draw close to him and he will draw close to you’, stand with and for the Lord and ignore that voice that is trying to defeat you. It comes from that ancient powerful serpent with poisonous venom dripping from his lips. It sounds innocent and delightfully inviting, but in the end it will sting like the bite of a Cobra and like many other hapless fools before us who could not withstand the sweetest temptation designed especially for us, we will surely fall
Ephesians 6:12
For we do not wrestle against
flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against
the rulers of darkness of the
age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness
in the heavenly places.
Therefore take up the whole armor
of God, that you may be able
to withstand in the evil day, and
having all to stand.
Delightful or wicked?
