Changing times

Bob Dylan wrote the lyrics, “the times they are a changing”. He could not have hit the nail more squarely on the head. September 11th changed the world dramatically, but even prior to that change was noticeable everywhere. I am now 55 years old and today is like daylight and dark compared to when I was a youngster. The world is much more evil now than it was just 30-40 years ago.

I couldn’t sleep last night, so about 2:00 AM I got up and worked out and then went into the living room and watched TV. The news was too depressing to watch, so I started flipping the channels. It is amazing how much hard core pornography is on TV at 3:30 AM. I went back to the news. They were reviewing a new TV series that depicts the gay lifestyle. Men were kissing men and women were doing likewise. Just a few years back this would have been unthinkable, and now it is readily accepted.

I wondered how God must feel seeing this and all of the other sins being committed all over the world. Unlike the general public, God does not change. Abortion is not fashionable to God, nor is being gay; they both are an abomination. The medical profession now says marrying and having sex with a first cousin is all right, but God calls it incest and forbids it. A United States President can have sex with a young girl the age of his daughter and then lie about it and the majority of the people say it is OK, but God says it is wrong and grievous sin. The Supreme Court says it is all right to display child pornography on the Internet, stating that it is “free speech”; however putting the Ten Commandments in a school or courthouse is a violation of our laws. The list is long.

The United States was not always this evil. When I was a kid we could pray in schools and always at a football game. No one got abortions, they went to unwed mother’s homes if they got pregnant. There were no X rated movies or even R rated on TV or in movie theaters. Homosexuals stayed in the closet because the “gay” lifestyle was viewed as an abomination. Pornography was a crime , not free speech. No American President could have stayed in office if they did what Bill Clinton did.

The world is certainly moving the wrong direction like a runaway freight train. Yes “the times they are a changing” – unfortunately it is for the worse! God will not tolerate us forever. Soon He is coming back and He will restore sanity to all of creation. Is God likely to change His mind about what is acceptable behavior and what is considered sin?
