I am amused by some potential investors in my company. One of their conditions of investment is for our company to take out a key man life insurance policy on me. The premise is that if I die the insurance would insure that their investment would be safe. That is very flattering that they think so highly of me, but they would be better served and it would be far less expensive to simply pray that God will provide the management and employees of the company with wisdom, clarity of thought and strength to guide it through the snares of the business world. Further they should pray that the leadership of the company, to a person, realize that God is the key man in the success of our company, not me. His blessings built it and will sustain it provided it progresses according to His plan. I cannot take credit for it nor can the other leaders in the company. We have done our part according to the “gifts” afforded to us, but it is the grace of God that allows things to flourish in our lives. We must recognize that and give credit where credit is deserved.
It is my belief that God has a plan for all of us. Sometimes it is difficult to discern exactly what our role should be, but if we earnestly ask God to lead us, He will make known to us what it is He wants us to do with ourselves. If you are on track, you will know it because things will move along nicely for you and He will bless your efforts. If we go in a direction God does not want us to go, things will not go well and we will be restless and devoid of inner peace. We should not whine and complain when things do not go well, but earnestly continue to seek God’s will for our lives. When we find it, we should not swell up like a peacock strutting the barnyard. Give credit where credit is due and thank God for allowing you to be a part of “His”
success. What the Lord gives, He can take away and we can be assured that no amount of insurance will prevent it. Had the leaders of Enron managed the company in such a manner that they realized that God was watching them every second of every minute of every day, and had adhered to Christian values, I believe it would still stand today. Instead it was managed according to deception, greed, and callous disregard for Christian values. There was no love at Enron, except the love of money.
Instead of everyone prospering, it fell like a rock. There isn’t enough key man insurance in the world that could have prevented it either.
We are stewards of what God allows us to have. How we perform our duties as stewards has much to do with whether we will be allowed to continue in that role, or whether it will be taken away from us and given to someone else who will faithfully perform those duties.

1 Peter 4:7
But the end of all things is at
hand; therefore be serious and
watchful in your prayers.
And above all things have fervent
love for one another, for “love will
cover a multitude of sins.”
Be hospitable to one another,
without grumbling.
As each one has received a gift,
minister it to one another, as good
stewards of the manifold grace of
God.
