Don’t be down on yourself

Often Christians lose the meaning of humility. Some mistakenly think that one must think poorly of themselves in order to display humility.
Not so, one of the greatest examples of humility was when Christ wrapped a towel around his waist, got down on His knees and washed the feet of His disciples. Jesus did not think lowly of Himself. He was not down on Himself. Jesus knew beyond a doubt that He was God Himself, Ruler of all creation.

Personally I think it is an insult to Christ for us to be down on ourselves. If we were not worth anything, Christ sure paid a heavy price for nothing. God certainly thinks we are valuable, so why shouldn’t we? The next time you start getting down on yourself, think about this. Remember Jesus told us to love one another, as we love ‘ourselves’. Obviously He does not want us to think poorly of ourselves.

This is not to be confused with foolish pride. God demonstrated what humility really means for us from the time the King of all kings came to us in a lowly manger in a barn, and throughout His life and indeed to His very death on the cross when he died for our sins. God wants us to have a servant spirit, no matter what our stature. We should listen to what God is telling us when He describes how the Lord of all got down on His knees and washed the feet of others. He wants us to be humble.

You are worth something. You are more valuable than gold, valuable jewels, stocks, cash or flash. Jesus died for YOUR sins and that is really saying something! Know that in your heart, but let Jesus do the bragging for you at the judgment day.
