Overcoming the world

On the plane yesterday I read USA Today. When I got home I listened to President Bush’s State of the Union message. It is clear that the world faces many very serious problems and unprecedented danger. Hate filled people threaten our very existence with weapons of mass destruction, the worldwide economy is in a precarious position, there are wars and rumors of wars, there are natural disasters, starvation, disease, poverty.
Look at the headlines: an ammunition factory exploded in Africa killing 600 people. In another area a volcano erupted killing more people.
Enron collapsed, K-Mart went bankrupt, other giant companies collapse, suicide bombings in Israel, Governor Jeb Bush’s daughter arrested on drug charges, murderers escape from a Texas correctional facility, a mother is on trial for methodically drowning all of her children, another mother pleaded guilty to torturing and sexually abusing her daughter who was locked in a closet with no toilet, starved and physically abused, a father is sent to prison for killing another father at their children’s hockey game, the headlines are almost surreal.
Almost as if satan wrote it himself.

What are we to do? How can we avoid being overcome by this evil world in these last demonic filled days? Keep God’s commandments and maintain faith! God tells us that we can obtain victory over this evil world through His Son Jesus Christ. There is only one way to overcome the world and that is through Jesus. Put your trust in Him today and every day!
