Friends in low places

There is an old adage that goes like this: “When you step in the gutter, you always get mud on your shoes.” It is hard enough to avoid temptation and live a good life while maintaining friends in low places and/or entering low-life situations. We should always avoid hanging out with low-life people and we should avoid being in low-life situations and places of business. We should be especially careful about with whom our kids are hanging out. I believe more kids get into trouble because they were hanging out with the wrong crowd than for any other reason.
Parents should know who their kids hang out with, and counsel them about it. I absolutely forbid some “friends” of one of my kid’s from coming to my house, and I forbid him with the threat of bodily harm in the vicinity of his rear-end from hanging out with them on more than one occasion. At the time, he thought I was wrong and was resentful, but now when he looks back on it and sees the serious trouble that some of those kids ultimately ended up getting in, a strange thing happened. We discussed what had happened to one of these scum-bags, and low and behold, he actually told me that I “may” have been right about it when I forbid him from being around this kid. Wow, Jon thanks a million!

them astray.
