At our company every employee must turn in career goals at the beginning of the year. Employees are encouraged to also set personal and spiritual goals. I strongly believe that everyone should set goals and deadlines for those goals. Someone has well said that a goal without a deadline is not really a goal, it is a wish, (that will likely be unfulfilled). It is simply imperative to have a deadline if you want to achieve anything worthwhile. Once a goal and its deadline are set, a plan of action must be developed that will achieve the goal by the established deadline. Next the plan must be put into motion and then constantly monitored and, if necessary adjusted, until it is achieved..

If our goal were to build a house, we would likely set a deadline of when we wanted our house to be completed. We would not build a house without first obtaining a set of plans, (nor should we build our career, personal life, or spiritual life without the same). We would work towards setting individual deadlines for all of the components of building the house such as estimating completion dates for tasks such as framing, electrical, plumbing etc. to be completed in order to achieve our overall deadline. As each phase becomes completed the overall plan must be constantly monitored and adjusted. It takes a lot of hard work and as anyone who has ever built a house can tell you, it can be extremely frustrating when “subs” do not show up when they say they will, or if materials cannot be obtained in a timely manner, or the weather will not cooperate. The plan must constantly be changed and expedited from every angle in order to meet the deadline. In the end it all becomes worth it as you stand back and admire the end result of all your hard effort.

I keep the goals that were turned in at the beginning of the year, and it is always interesting to look at them again at the end of the year.
Without question, the most successful people in our company achieve more of their goals than the less successful. Although it takes hard work to succeed, it is not always the hardest working people that are the most successful. Practically everyone in our company works very hard. It is not always the smartest people that succeed either. (Although it certainly helps if God has given you this gift, many smart people do not amount to a hill of beans). Again most everyone in our company is very smart and some are brilliant, yet some are more successful than others.
Those who work hard and are smart, and yet are not as successful as they should be, can usually attribute it to one of the following problems:
Failure to set goals
Failure to set deadlines for the goals that they do have Failure to develop a plan of action to achieve the deadline Failure to put the plan of action into motion Failure to monitor the plan on a daily basis and adjust where necessary

Failure to stay on course everyday and review goals They just don’t want it bad enough to make the necessary sacrifices

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, life ain’t no dress rehearsal. This is our one chance at this and it is up to us to achieve as much as we can. Our lives are like vapors, here today and gone tomorrow. I believe that God wants us to set worthy goals and then achieve them. Most of us are probably thinking right now of improving our careers, family life and personal desires; however our most fervent goal should be to achieve spiritual goals of which we must one day give an account. That day may come sooner rather later. Time is a wasting, He may come at any moment. Praise His Holy Name!

Rev. 1:7
Behold He is coming with
clouds and every eye will see Him
even those who pierced Him. And all
the tribes of the earth will mourn
because of Him.
“I am the Alpha and Omega
the Beginning and End,” says
the Lord, who is and who was
and who is to come, the Almighty.

_______________

Come quickly oh Lord!
