I didn’t have many friends when I was growing up. My family was nomadic, moving constantly. As soon as I met a few people, we would pack up and move. I did not ever attend a school over one year and a half. I went to three different High Schools. Personally I think that is a terrible way to grow up. I think that one of the worst things about it is that I did not ever gain any lifelong friends. There just wasn’t enough time to form any lasting bonds. I have always been jealous of those who have friends who they have known since childhood. Good friends have been hard to come by for me.

I was determined that my children would not have to experience the same thing that I did, and indeed they were raised in the same house until they were grown. They have tons of friends, many of whom they have known all of their lives. They cannot go anywhere without running into someone they know. I think that true friendships are one of the most valuable assets that one can attain. Many folks don’t even have a single true friend. The Bible states that in order to have friends, one must himself be friendly. (Prov. 18:24). Do you have any friends? If not, perhaps it is time to start getting friendly.

Prov. 18:1
A man who isolates himself
seeks his own desire;
He rages against all wise
judgment.
